I went to Brasserie de Paris for my birthday earlier this year with 6 other people. We sat down and ordered some wine, one of my guests tipped a glass of red wine on the table cloth, a waiter came past and took the glass from her but did not take any of the napkins we used to clean the table cloth with, it stayed on the end of the table for about 10 minutes as we struggled to wave down our waiter. I guessed that the waiter was new because he also returned several times to confirm individuals drink and food orders and took some time to bring the drinks back and did not clear the table of empty glasses or bottles or cans until we asked him to, bear in mind that we were the only patrons in the restaurant except for two or three people at a separate table. All 7 of us ordered a starter, main and desert - the starters were just okay, 5/10. When it came to the main course, 4 of us ordered the fillet steak, at R295 per steak, all of us ordered medium steaks - when they arrived, another guest cut into their steak and saw it was very under-done. With his fork and knife still in his hand he gestured to a waiter that was still at the table putting plates down - before he could even speak another woman cut him off and told him sarcastically, "That is a medium steak". Everyone kind of kept their heads down, the tone of the waitress/manager was so dismissive we almost felt embarrassed to query the steak, we soldiered through and ate what we could but the steak was bloody and watery and frankly difficult to eat. I understand that sometimes the 'correct' way to cook a medium steak can vary and that some restaurant's 'medium' is another restaurant's 'well-done' BUT, if someone listened and had been more understanding and simply taken the steaks back and cooked it for a few minutes longer, the meal and overall experience would have been much better. The deserts looked good but small and not as tasty as they looked. 4/10.
This was an important dinner and I am very grateful that I was not the one settling the bill, but after the experience I had to ask what the full amount was, it was above R7000 in total - At the end of the dinner we felt that the event has snowballed into an unpleasant experience and regrettably in our haste to leave, we inadvertently tipped 15% on top of the bill which already included the tip amount. To end it off the waiter did not even bother to thank us for the significant tip.

Read moreWe had an incredible dining experience at Brasserie De Paris, and I can’t recommend it enough. From the moment we made our booking online, everything was handled with care and attention to detail. On the day of our reservation, the restaurant called to confirm, checked for any allergies, and even asked if we were celebrating a special occasion—a thoughtful touch that set the tone for the evening.
The service was outstanding. Our waitress, Lizzy, was an absolute gem—warm, friendly, and attentive without ever feeling intrusive. She struck the perfect balance of making sure we were looked after while allowing us to enjoy our evening at our own pace. The sommelier was equally impressive, sharing his extensive knowledge about the wines he served with such enthusiasm that it made each pairing even more enjoyable.
We chose the Degustation Menu, which was an absolute treat. The Tomato Consommé was packed with deep, rich flavor and made for a fantastic start. The Free Range Duck Liver Parfait was unbelievably smooth and delicious—I already want to go back just to have it again! The Beef Fillet was beautifully cooked, tender, and full of flavor. Every dish was carefully prepared, showcasing top-quality ingredients and incredible skill in the kitchen.
If I had to nitpick, the Crème Brûlée was the only slight disappointment. While the flavors were great, the dish itself was a bit too shallow, which threw off the balance of custard to caramelized sugar and made it a little too sweet. That said, we still enjoyed it, and it didn’t take away from the overall experience.
Everything about our evening at Brasserie De Paris was fantastic. The atmosphere, the service, and the incredible food made for a truly special night. We’ll definitely be back for our next...
Read moreWe first went to Brasserie de Paris last December where we had a wonderful experience. We decided to go again this time taking our son and daughter-in- law with us. What should've been a 40 minute drive from Johannesburg to Pretoria turned into an hour and a half nightmare of a drive due to a problem on the highway. Nevertheless, the staff welcomed us warmly and kept our table. We arrived at 1: 45 instead of 1pm. Sitting behind me was a man with such a loud booming voice that I could not even hear myself think let alone hear what the waiter was saying. This is no fault of the restaurant but just added to the day. We ordered quickly because of the lateness of the day and were told to order dessert at the same time as the kitchen closes at 2:30.Not sure why as the desserts needed to be plated, none were made on the spot. ( the desserts were good , by the way, ).We got bread and an amuse bouche and then we waited and we waited for our food. After a long wait and being promised that it was coming , the meal arrived. My steak tartare was good as was the duck. The Gnocchi was cold and the steak was anything but medium. No chef running a pass should've allowed that dish to leave the kitchen!! The maitre d was most surprised when we told him the steak was overcooked! He did offer to replace the dish but I think in that moment all of us without saying anything out loud just wanted to eat and leave! We got our desserts, tea and coffee and the bill all at the same time and headed home. The trip home was quick and uneventful. In hindsight I'm sorry we went back. Sometimes if one has a good experience, we should leave it at that and remember it for...
