This is a favourite of ours.Food is always great and love the outside area under the trees with the chickens walking around.
But the service is always quite slow or inconsistent despite there being a number of waiters. Maybe we've just been unlucky each time? They seem inexperienced because you're either bombarded every few minutes or neglected and they seem somewhat panicky or deer in the headlights and don't know how to keep an eye on their tables in their peripheral vision without hovering. Their anxiety also takes away from the otherwise quaint and relaxing environment and orders get muddled or sometimes just don't arrive if you're more than four people.
I know the place gets busy but there's more than enough of them to divide and conquer and we don't expect Steers kiosk speed service but they could just be a little bit more on top of their game and calmer and then the place will be next level amazing. Maybe some training?
They all bunch up near the door or entrance and don't spread out to keep an eye on everyone and run around a lot being busy but not always very efficient. There could also afford to be more team work amongst the waiters not only focusing on their own tables. Many restaurants have come up with clever incentives for team work rather than an every man for himself striving for tips situation, which appears to be the case.
Like I said, this has just been our experience the last few times we've been there.
Usually, we've have to ask for a menu more than once and despite the manager coming to check if "everything is all right" sometimes you have to physically get up to find the waiter to get their attention or just go inside and pay at the till so as not to wait too long.
We love it there and will go back again but never if we have a lot to do or are in a...
Read moreI’m a regular but had a horrible experience today when I was served a tiny portion of one of my favorite orders. This order is R170, so it’s not cheap. It had no flavor, not even salted. I had to put salt in it; went a far as asking the waiter for some store bought sauce, it was so bad. I said something to the waitress and she relayed the message the owner who replied with “it’s a bigger portion and the recipe is the same”. My waitress could see and acknowledged the portion size had shrunk since I ordered it last.
Being a regular, the waiting staff know me well and I know them. They know I have NEVER sent food back to the kitchen. I would suffer through a meal and not say anything because I don’t like drama but the food I was served today was worth me speaking out.
As I leave disappointed, the car guard tells me they are without a head chef and have been for a little while. Like, it all made sense then. No chef = then just winging it and then responding with “the recipe is the same” when regulars notice.
Isn’t it better to just be honest and offer some...understanding or something when you know you don’t have a chef in your kitchen and are serving sub-par food.
There are other restaurants you...
Read moreLovely venue, I'd been there before, many years back under another name. We enjoyed our 'melts' .. strawberry milkshake and rock Shandy..then decided to split a cream scone. Took a bite, and yuk, the cream was sour. We told our waiter who informed the owner/manager. Instead of saying,'apologies for this I'll take these away, and replace them with fresh scones. We were told the cream wasn't 'off' ...eventually asked 'would you like me to replace the scones'? And told us the cream must've gone 'off' from the kitchen to our table :-( We replied yes please, minus any cream please. Fresh scones arrived with jam and cream small dishes. We tried the cream, at first it seemed OK..it appeared fine, but then the aftertaste wasn't great..my friend agreed...we ate our lovely warm scones with just jam. Paid our bill and left. What started out as a lovely lunch was ruined for us.. over a disagreement whether the cream was...
