Decided to visit Tribes in Emperor's Palace with friends from Seychelles last night, Saturday 18 June. My gosh, there were so many cars!!!! Parking was a bit of a problem .... some of the higher cars parked on the pavements!!!!! First time visiting Tribes. If you're a meat lover, it's your place. Although prices are bit expensive, it's not crazy. Big restaurant - as you walk in, an African guy played guitar and later an African lady sung 'The Click Song'. Waiter took us right through the restaurant to the back ... great strategy, cause when you pass the kitchen - you just smell roast meat!!! A small biltong counter on your left where you can choose and pay for biltong. Hein ordered a lime and soda. He usually asks for a tall glass with ice and the lime on the side. You cannot imagine how many waiters don't understand that ... but at Tribes, our waiter got it right. Cappuccino was great, Virgin Mojito looked refreshing and Windhoek beer good. A small basket with 4 homemade bread rolls, still warm, cheered me up! No-one else wanted some - in hindsight, I should have just continue eating those. It was crusty outside and soft inside. Fantastic!!! The orders were: chicken breast with lemon herb sauce, chips and onion rings (good), ostrich fillet topped with avo and biltong with onion rings (great) and sirloin steak with Madagascar sauce (steak was bit chewy - a bit of a disappointment for a steakhouse!). I am not a meat-lover, so ordered the starter of black mushroom, topped with spinach and cheese. It was good. Great vibe, great food.

An African restaurant but an out of this world experience. There is, quite simply, nothing to fault and Tribes has catapulted itself to my favourite restaurant on the East Rand. We were seated at a romantic table upstairs as requested when we booked. But, I would have equally enjoyed being downstairs amongst the laughter, the singing and the drums. The decor and ambience transports you out of jozi and into the Kruger or Sabi. Our waiter, Trainos, was brilliant. His menu expertise out done only by his attention to detail and warmth. Let's get to the food. It's the day after and my mouth is still watering. The menu is a meat lovers heaven. And the chef is a genius. I had the knysna oysters to start. So fresh, and what a treat. I followed our waiters advice and had the ostrich fillet with black cherries for my main course. My better half had the rib eye on the bone. Pepper crusted. Both dishes were so delicious that we shared the generous portions. Succulent. Perfectly cooked. Perfection on a plate. I can't wait to go back again. So much more to experience.

The food was exquisite. I had the game platter and everything was excellent. However, two things downgraded the experience. Firstly, the restaurant is in a casino. The casino was very crowded. It took me 20 minutes to find a parking spot. Despite the crowded casino. The restaurant was not busy at all. So I doubt being there helps business, but rather adds headache to the patrons. Secondly, the service left a lot to be desired. My server barely introduced my dish. They seem to be trained to sell high margin wagyu beef, which I had no interest in. Not once during my meal he came over to ask about my needs. He just disappeared after bring over my meal. By the end of my meal, he took away my half-finished drink without even asking. He also tried to forced me to give him more tips, which was uncomfortable given he did not provide a good service in my opinion.

I don’t wanna lie the food and experience was very nice however we got the worst treatment from a lady named Preciuos apparently she’s the manager it so happened that when we were about the settle the bill we swiped like 1500 instead of 2060 and opted that we scan to pay the rest of the amount which was 750 after making the payment of 1500 we experienced load shading then the scan to pay was a problem the machines kept on giving the error message code we tried multiple times they didn’t work to a point she started hinting out that it’s a pity there’s no dishes it’s a pity we are the ones who have to settle the bill at first I didn’t pay attention to what she was saying until the guy I was with felt offended and lashed out instead of controlling the situation she goes on to tell us to go an withdraw the money while the machines are the one giving problems I even tried saying surly because of the load shading maybe some towers could be down but no she insisted we go withdraw the money I simply asked one of the guys could we move to the door maybe the machine will work we did so it did work we made our payment instead of apologising she keeps on arguing we try to get her name no one could tell us her name why because you could see right then that there’s work politics certain people can’t express how they feel at work because of Preciuos they were terrified that maybe they could loose their jobs why just because of fact that she feels that she can tell customers whatever she wants without even drawing the line she’s very unprofessional can something be done about bullies like Preciuos not only a bully who bullies customers but also the...

We booked table 20 at tribes on Monday the 2nd of January. I’ve always enjoyed the food and am a frequent customer, myself and my wife went for our 30th anniversary. From tribes wine list the first 3 brands we choice were out of stock. This is still understandable consider the holiday season. Eventually we choice a wine that was recommended. The service was no existent. Ordered the wild game platter with pap and my wife ordered a black mushroom starter(food took over an hour). We ended sharing my wife’s starter as my meal was burnt and overcooked. I brought this to the attention of our server and or management. The response from management was rude and disrespectful. We were told that the meal will be taken off the bill and we can leave. We came to tribes for a special night out and we left hungry, disappointed and disgusted in the manner in which management handled the situation. We didn’t need a free meal we just wanted a new meal or at least the choice of something else off the menu. We ended up passing a drive through takeout on our way home. I wish we could rewind time and make a better Choice in restaurant. What a pity…. We will not go back and highly recommend people read this review before they make a booking at tribes. Please reconsider your choice in Restuarant, emperors palace has an array of beautiful...
