I gave this 4đź’« because the staff were friendly and the service wasn't bad. We ordered a chicken burger, beef burger and two chicken schnitzels with chips. The food came quickly and was well worth it as the prices are reasonable. They have indoor and outdoor seating areas. None of the staff wear masks though and when I asked about it, the owner/manager said her lawyer said they don't have too. I'm a bit confused about that because I thought everybody has to wear a mask except when you eating or drinking in a restuarant.
REPLY TO CAFE VIENNA DINER SEDGEFIELD Firstly thank you for responding to my review. It's always refreshing when you know that employees/ managers/owners of an establishment take an interest in what the public or their customers have to say.
It's great to know that you are sanitising. I hope this practice remains even after Covid-19 protocols are eased to oblivion. With regards to wearing a mask, it is law in South Africa to wear a mask that covers your mouth and nose. As far as I know, this law also pertains to the staff in your diner. Diners in a restuarant (meaning your customers) must be screened, sanitised and wear a mask when entering the establishment. Diners are allowed to remove their masks when they are eating and drinking. (I don't know how else they would be able to eat or drink). Wearing a mask not only protects the customer but also the employee. As regards to my children not wearing a mask, well let me say this, they each had one on when they walked into your diner and they had one on when they left. We all did. My daughter has underlying comorbidities and i have not kept my family safe till now, for them to become flippant about Covid-19 and its protocols. We travelled from Cape Town, making our base in Sedgefield. During our week long stay in Sedgefield we travelled to many outlying places and did quite a few touristy things. Your establishment was the only one that did not adhere to Covid-19 protocols of wearing a mask. Everywhere else that we went the management and staff wore a mask...and so did we. We enjoyed your little diner, the food was good and the price was reasonable. Sanitise, social distance and wear your...
Read moreDecided to pop by this Cafe on our way to Cape Town for a quick breakfast as it had one of the highest Google reviews in the area. Our breakfast order (English breakfast and scrambled eggs on toast with additional sausage) took over 30 minutes to arrive, which I could maybe understand if the Cafe was busy, but there was literally only 2 other customers. The only thing on our plates that was warm was the tomatoes, everything else was cold. I also had to go ask the waiter for an item (mushrooms) that was missing from my order. When the bill came, we discovered that my partner had been charged for another breakfast that was almost double the price of the breakfast she had. When confronted with this, the waiter was abrupt and rude, and changed our bill. My partner is normally a generous tipper, and against my judgement not to tip, she still wanted to tip - however it was not 10% and when we gave our total amount, the what I assume owner asked us in a very rude manner 'and?' as to ask us where the tip was. There was also a 'levy' of 5% on the bill which at this point I was too scared to asked about due to the hostility of the staff. Maybe they were having a bad day, but that should not be projected onto their...
