Monticello’s Restaurant Sedgefield is on the opposite side of the Spar on the highway. A restaurant well signed on the roof out but deceiving from the outside as rather large inside. The Restaurant as a guess will sit around 200 people inside making it a good place to hold events in winter and summer. Many restaurants on the garden route work on a 50% inside and 50% outside sitting arrangement where this is 100% inside. 70% is in the main building and 30% is on the deck with full pull-down covers to ensure protection from heat, wind, or rain. I can imagine it can be rolled up on a hot day and opened as an outdoor section if desired. The magnificent ambiance and we planned a party for 14 people. It was well organized, and the Owner Anita was always prompt with my WhatsApp arrangements. There is a full bar with anything from beers, ciders, spirits, cocktails, and Don Pedro’s. There is plenty of parking outside and it is wheelchair / elderly-friendly. Not ideal for young children but maybe for teenagers and above. The food varies; however, we selected a larger group and a smaller menu. The majority went for the Sea Food paella which was good (but I have been spoilt by real Spanish Paellas – I would rate this 70% as good). The real specialty is beef espetada which came in a small size with chips and a large size with chips and a Portuguese roll. They were drizzled with garlic butter and a few people claimed it was the best Espetada they have ever eaten. I tried a piece, and it was magnificent. There are starts and desserts, however, their positions as quite large so leave space for the main meal. I only had space for a Paella and a Don Pedro with Frangelico(which was not the best one I have had – rated average) On the whole it was a magnificent experience – with fantastic service. I would highly recommend this restaurant

This is a restaurant where you need to be hungry before you arrive. The portions are very, very generous and the house speciality, Espetada, is totally awesome. This is what I ordered, and the huge cubes of fileted beef made my jaw drop. Talk about value for money. Each cube was superb and juicy and not one piece was hard or chewey. The garlicky taste was... Holy mother, that was good!

The food was delicious, I have paid well for steaks in Chicago, Toronto and many high end steak Houses throughout North America and many other places and this was as good if not better than most. What a wonderful find in the middle of this beautiful little sleepy town. Will be stopping in frequently I assure you

Tonight we went to one of our favorite restaurants in the whole world. For the past 18 years or so, we have gone to Monte Cello's in Sedgefield (in my opinion one of the best kept secrets of the Garden Route) to celebrate our anniversary every year. In all that time the fairly small menu has remained the same. Consequently, it has been honed to an unvarying standard of excellence. We know what we will eat before we get there and our anticipation has never turned to disappointment. We started the evening with the creamy feta salad, where the secret really is in the dressing. BB's espetada was succulent and exactly medium rare, with golden garlic butter dripping slowly down the length of the skewered meat. My chilli steak was oh so tender and invitingly spicy. And the chips! I often dream of them in the USA where's the tasteless 'french fry' reigns supreme. These chips were beautiful examples of the mouth delight of a crisp exterior and a fluffy interior. Dipping them in the surprisingly tasty mushroom sauce was a real treat. To crown it all we enjoyed a decadent looking but not-too-sweet strawberry Pavlova. And before I forget, let me say that the service was excellent as well as friendly. Maybe we can start inventing a few more...

They came highly recommended via Google review. Always weary when it seems too good to be true but decided to give it a go and wow, we were blown away! Bear in mind that Sedgefield is a small coastal town...the first slow town in SA....and not exactly the hub of the Garden Route. MONTECELLO'S did not disappoint. Very old school in decor ...pretty tables, white table cloths.....But I missed a single candle on the table....! The food was next level good. I had the most tender fillet espetada ever! The boys had rump with chips and sauce, the girl child had beef croquettes and some grilled vegetables. Steaks came with chips and peas and delicious quinoa salad. Portions were generous. Service was amazing without being pretentious (thx Casey).

BEST STEAKS EVER apparently grilled by the owner who has been at it for 40years. We all eat our steaks differently- medium, medium rare, rare and everyone's plate came at the same time perfectly cooked and stayed warm too. I am super impressed and wished I went there every night. Prices are also really good! Yay!

They were busy but not fully booked on a Wednesdays in the December holidays. We got a table 'outside'. I suggest you book though...
