Moonshine Runners Diner — Restaurant in George

Arrived at the restaurant at about 7pm, it was completely empty with the exception of 1 table where 3 people were seated having drinks. As soon as my family and I walked through the door we were awkwardly greeted by a woman taking pizza out of the oven and then awkwardly stared at by what seemed to be a waitress or manager who then made another waitress talk to us (a woman of colour) who then consulted with the other waitress. This other waitress quickly intervened to tell us that “we’ve been busy for 6 weeks and are fully booked” BEAR IN MIND: Their website said that they are doing takeaways, and there was only ONE table occupied at the restaurant when we got there and bear in mind that they close at 10pm. Now, I’m not sure why they turned us away. But it did seem racially motivated. I’ve never been turned away from an entirely empty restaurant and told that “we are fully booked” in my LIFE and I’ve worked at restaurants so I know how these sort of things work. We have never turned away customers ESPECIALLY customers who are ordering to take away and even if they weren’t ordering to take away we informed them that “these tables will be unavailable at a certain time but you are more than welcome to sit there if you’re okay with having to move when the booking arrives”

The second we walked through the doors we were glared at, and making the only other person of colour talk to us felt a bit strange. I do not recommend going to this restaurant. The whole vibe was just off and extremely disgusting. The food didn’t even look that good either to be honest. Eventually we opted to go to another restaurant called FILO’S not even 2 minutes away from this racist place. The service was phenomenal and the food, AMAZING. The owners are kind and the hospitality was awesome so go there instead.

My girlfriend and 2 friends came for a dinner meal on Friday night (09th December) we had ordered 2 medium pizzas and they had sent us 2 large pizza's. I had then went in to go and confront one of the sweet waitresses and she had told me that they could not do anything about it and we were charged for the 2 large pizza's that we did not order. We specifically remember telling the young waitress that served us that we want 2 mediums and she confirmed it once we had finished placing our order. The food was very tasty and delicious, good environment but what put us off was the incorrect order. It was shocking how they did not take the blame for their fault. We are young students with tight budgets so paying for that was not fair. Not disappointed...

PROS: Venue is not too large and has a great feel. Staff are friendly and helpful. Menu is not too large and offers a decent variety and a few different takes on the classics. (Pizza, Burgers, salads, etc) They have veggie and vegan options! Plenty of parking around the venue.

CONS: Portion sizes can be a bit on the smaller side. But pricing is in line with size. So take it or leave it. They do not provide a proper receipt (bill) with an actual list of what you had. This makes bill splitting a nightmare.

ADVICE: Go with a small group of friends for some drinks and a quick bite to eat. Book in advance...
