This bar & restaurant is across the road from the beach in Margate. I found Margate to be very commercial & I am not in a hurry to go back there however it is near to Ramsgate, Southbroom and about 40 minutes from to Port Edward. From Port Edward The 'Wild Coast Casino' *(Read Below) is only 10-15 minutes away.
The Blue lagoon is great from the upstairs bar lovely view. They do not serve food upstairs it is more of a party deck with quite loud music; fantastic if you are looking to party / drink etc.
I unfortunately never had the opportunity to try the downstairs restaurant but it seems pretty popular the menu from hamburger's, fish fried or grilled, chips or rice & salad or vegetables etc. A family restaurant. No Michelin stars if you get my meaning.
*(Read Below) Unless you are a gambling addict and need a fix the The 'Wild Coast Casino' resort owned and managed by Sun International? is one place I will never return to. It was know by the staff that the internet & TV was not working yet I was still given the room after I stressed my need for internet access telephonic-ally and before check-in.
Boasting 4 stars the The 'Wild Coast Casino' Resort / Hotel / Motel? received this rating when it was built. Due to the size of the group it has managed to keep this rating when in fact without even room service it would only qualify in SA for a 1 or 2 stars. Staff useless. It took 3 hours for them to try repair the TV after a few minutes they left saying it cannot be repaired, I requested another TV but was on deaf ears. I emailed the resort 's HQ at least 3 times using 3 separate email addresses still no reply. Its a huge group so they are not concerned with one individuals issue's. They are aware of all these problems but continue to market and advertise the resort, this may be fraudulent. Its being done on a large scale. 90% or more of the gaming rooms are locals without money to wast.
I believe ownership of the resort should be given to the Xhosa people. No one can purchase land in this region. How did this organization get the rights to build a huge hotel and casino.
I am sure money was given or maybe a few cattle but this casino makes millions of dollars per year the locals were ripped...
Read moreI am extremely dissapointed with the service we received at Blue Lagoon Restaurant in January 2022.
We bought their homemade Peri-Peri sauce on 14 January. My husband and I contracted food poisioning from their rotten sauce we had with Pizza served at their Restaurant and also from the bottle of sauce we bought and took home.
The sauce fermented and boiled over in my fridge 2 days later.
When I called the Restaurant today, 17 January to make them aware of my complaint, the Manager Gail apologized but I could hear she wasn't really bothered by my problem. She said they will refund the money for the sauce and give a new bottle of sauce for free! I never want a drop off their rotten sauce again!
She mentioned the sauce can go off in this heat even if kept in a fridge! When I confronted her as to why there is no expiry date on the sauce her answer was fresh sauce is made every week.
I find that hard to believe, as the sauce is not even properly stored in a fridge in the Restaurant. It is stored on a shelf on this heat! So how would a person know it is not old sauce they are selling to Customers.
What is even more disturbing they serve this sauce to Customers on a daily basis!
We were loyal Blue Lagoon Customers up to now. We visited the Restaurant for the last five years when we had our yearly coastal holiday.
I doubt that we would ever visit this...
Read moreBlue Lagoon is on Ramsgate's main beach. There's a lovely beach view from the outdoor seating area and some of the tables near the windows. The service is laid back - on the verge of slow, but the staff are all friendly and accommodating. We had to keep looking for our server, though. We ordered seven pizzas, and four of them were "special" orders where we asked for things to be excluded. I'm happy to say that all of our pizzas arrived exactly as we ordered, and all within minutes of each other. We found the seafood pizza too rich (the crabsticks ruined them). The biltong pizza was great, and so were out individual variations of the Hawaaiin pizza. It was odd to see there was no Regina on the menu and no pizza with bacon or avo. The milkshakes were small and too sweet. It was as if they were meant to be served in bigger glasses with more ice cream. Overall, it was an enjoyable evening. I was surprised by how quiet they were given that we were there on a Friday evening during the June-July school holidays. The toilets were clean, and they had water even though parts of Ramsgate...
