Taso's Bar & Grill Ballito — Restaurant in KwaDukuza Local Municipality

Fellow joburger here! For once I lived like a local in ballito and might I say Tasos is my favorite restaurant in ballito. I will admit without no guilt that I consumed their crumbed chicken strips and creamed spinach for 2 weeks straight, yes I said it.

their pricing is absolutely exceptional for what you get. Their portion sizes and quality of food is exceptional, every meal was made with oceanic love.

the service is so quick and friendly. Kind and bubbly waitors!

the view is stunning and the interior design of tasos is so cool and appealing.

their chicken strips have my heart, I miss them so much, please deliver to joburg? (Haha) They are by far the best chicken strips I’ve tasted, they come piping hot and crispy to perfection. My boyfriend and I created a little combo where we dipped our chicken strips into their sensational creamed spinach. Wow what a balanced, satisfying meal. Love love love.

-grilled hake with their sides is such a hearty and nourishing meal, their hake falls and melts into your mouth like butter. Don’t get me started on that sundried tomato sauce that they have on top! Their roasted veg, mashed potatoes, creamed spinach and zucchini fries are my favorite! Can’t go wrong!

-chicken schnitzels with cheese and pepper sauce, need I say more in the photo. They are so generous with their portions. Chicken was so tender and had the perfect crunch.

-cocktails are perfect with the sea view and hearty meals. Frozen mojito is a winner!

I previously enjoyed visiting Tasos and even recommended it to numerous people, until a recent poor experience.

My wife and I both ordered the kingclip. Sadly, both pieces of fish were overcooked, and were rubbery in texture. I was quite hungry, so I finished mine. My wife couldn’t finish hers, and sent back about half of the dish. Instead of asking whether the restaurant could redo the dish, or prepare something else for my wife, they simply resorted to giving us two portions of ice cream (which I presume is not a very expensive dish). Upon being presented with the bill I noted that both kingclip dishes were charged for. I asked the waiter to check on this, as out of fairness it was my view that one of the dishes should not have been charged for. The manager brought an amended bill reflecting a mere R45,00 reduction (on a dish that costs a bit over R200,00) and advised that this what the amendment made by the owner. I found this to be completely insulting and demeaning. We were not approached by the owner who made this decision. Completely shocked with this, we instead opted to pay the full initial bill and walked out. Even when walking out we were not approached by the owner. I will not return to this Restuarant. I recently visited for lunch and was really looking forward to enjoying a good meal with a beautiful ocean view. Initially, I was a bit disappointed by the service from one of the waitresses. I asked for a two-seater table overlooking the ocean, but was told it was reserved—even though the restaurant was quite empty, aside from the smoking section.

I was seated near the smoking section instead, which thankfully didn’t affect me too much as the smoke was fairly contained.

Once seated, a different waiter took over and he was friendly, helpful, and attentive. I ordered the chicken burger with chips and extra mushroom sauce, along with a few drinks, and everything was absolutely delicious. The food and overall vibe were lovely.

What left a lasting impression, though, was that the table I had initially requested remained empty the entire time I was there—right up until I paid my bill.

I would’ve really appreciated being seated there, especially since I was dining solo and would have stayed longer, enjoyed the view more, and likely ordered more.

That said, I do plan to return. Next time, I’ll be sure to make a reservation and hopefully be accommodated more...
