I am so disappointed in this place.
So today I decided to get dinner for my family, and called in to order mutton breyani for pick-up. I arrived 10 minutes later, and when I requested my order, the cashier was none the wiser. Turns out one of the waitresses (I think) had taken it but left the receipt elsewhere so my order wasn't ready and I would have to wait. Alright I had no problem waiting (although I had a cab waiting for me) and I was assured it would take just a couple of minutes to dish. I wait, and 10 minutes pass, I try to get someone to check on my order, to no avail. Finally, after 15mins I get the cashiers attention, she quickly asks someone to check on it, only for her to be told that they had run out of mutton breyani and that they only had chicken. In disbelief I ask how that is possible, I mean all in all I had spent about 20mins by this time, only to be told that I was wait for nothing. I tell the waitress that, no I would not like the chicken breyani and instead of offering me something else, especially for my troubles, she goes straight to the cashier and comes back with my money and a 'sorry its not my fault'.
I was livid to say the least, disturbed and disgusted at the poor service of this place. I would not recommend Canecutters Glenwood to anyone, unless of course you want to waste your time, money and energy. I actually asked why I hadn't been told all this over the phone, when I called to make the order in the first place and no one had the answer for me.
Poor, poor, poor service
Would give them a...
Read moreOrdered a deluxe mutton button for the first time and was very disappointed.
The menu promised prime cuts, boneless and extra meat. The bunny delivered meat that was tender, but there was a bone and the bunny only contained four teaspoon sized pieces of meat.
I would not suggest getting this over a regular mutton bunny which normally contains more meat than this. Definitely not worth R80.
The potato was one small piece that was glassy and not the normal steaming soft cooker that I've come to expect from Canecutters. There was no coriander garnish on top either.
I have enjoyed many regular 1/4 mutton bunny's over the past four years. And regularly recommend them to people, after today I am not so sure. I definitely would not recommend the Deluxe bunny as it is more expensive and contained less meat
The gravy was saltier and darker in color than before not sure what this means.
What I find is that it is generally the takeway bunny's that are not up to scratch. It is not a question of the bunny's being old as I do not order in advance. I go to the store and place the order then drive a short distance to the botanical gardens for example, to enjoy my bunny there.
I am hoping that this was just an off day and not indicative of the future of...
Read moreI was recommended the restaurant and takeaways by a local and cannot say that I was disappointed. Its a small clean shop with very friendly staff. Locals waiting for food at the Cafe spoke highly of it and I love trying new places that sells bunny chows (hollowed out bread stuffed with curry) especially when in Durban. The bunny was reasonably priced and well presented. The cafe's bunny won local competitions and I can understand why...it was great tasting, full of flavor and just spicy enough to let you know and welcome you to Durban. They do offer a wide variety of products including a deluxe bunny chow which i only saw when I already ordered my normal version. Being my first time at the shop I did find that parking was a bit of an issue(I am sure the locals know much better) and I waited a bit long for my food (I guess this could be due to a high amount of orders) but all worth it. You can also call ahead and place an order which might help with my last two issues. One should also note thatbthey do close at 6pm so get there in time. I will definitely try another bunny again from Canecutters. As always...
