News Cafe Davenport — Restaurant in KwaZulu-Natal

WHAT A TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE WE HAD YESTERDAY!

On Sunday 2023/10/29 at approximately 18:15pm we went for supper at your Davenport branch. Our waiter (african male) who informed us that the store is gona require him to make payment of the changes we made of platters, but it was surprising cos I spoke to chef & he didn't seem to have a problem with us for changing. After that incident the waiter was than giving us attitude with ZERO CUSTOMER SERVICE. When payment of the bill was made we included the difference that the waiter told us that the store is gona require from him by making a void. We included the tip as well even though the waiter was giving us attitude. To our surprise on the speed point the waiter had inserted an amount that we did not tell him to put, he maybe thought that we are intoxicated, we relised & corrected him. I think his used to robbing people as he was so comfortable to do it! I've heard of such behavior but never thought we would experience it I than asked for a packet/plastic to put the reminder of our beverages but the waiter just ignored us & served another table that sitted after I requested for plastic & water. As we were walking out the restaurant I asked the waiter for his name since he didn't have a name badge on, he told me his "Sbu" my partner asked another waiter and he said our waiters name is LUYANDA, so it just showed how our waiter is a dishonest employee! He just ruined our mood and love for NEWCAFE DAVENPORT definitely not coming back to that branch and would not recommend it...

It's a good relaxed place...only problem. I had, another male staff member decided to ignore that fact that we the only one sitting in the front and it's near closure time... he doesn't asks us who's take away is this...he just takes it from the table and goes to the back with it...I was lucky enough to see through the kitchen window ans i couod see him open n it and start putting sauce on it...we asked another staff to request that the member that just took a take away from the table and went in the kitchen to bring it back...

Took sometime to come back as it being closed...he has the decently to not apologize but says " don't put a take away on an empty table it's meant for people to sit and walks away" firstly when it brought t to me it was also left on the next table from where we sitting...that G just made me realize ain't no customer service with him..he lucky I kept it to myself...he actually should of paid for that food he put sauce on. I was there 24/05/23.mxim but atleast I won't be visiting that place again.

Our waitor was on point..shout out to the guy.just that one waitor irritated me and I really didn't wanna spoilt the birthday dinner for the...

Had a very bad experience with our waitress who served us on Friday the 28th of march 2025. I initially ordered fried chips with sirloin. When the chips arrived, I tasted them and ddnt like them as they tasted moist and soggy as though they were left in oil to soak .8 requested to change with sweet potato fries which a argued and had an attitude about it saying “ no one has ever said those chips are ugly, it’s bcoz you are pregnant hence you think they are ugly” I felt that was rude and disrespectful to say that . The entire time we were at the restaurant, she gave me attitude when I asked for a folk and knife because when she came back with sweet potato fries, she did not come with a folk and knife.

Upon leaving , we requested for our bill so we could leave , she took close to 30min to return and in our take away, I ordered a chocolate brownie with ice cream only to get home to find cream instead of ice cream . Never going back to news cafe ever again ! That waitress is extremely rude and she doesn’t even hide her face...
