I’ve been a HUGE fan of Jimmy’s Killer Prawns in Durban & that’s why when I won a competition for two last December, I was over the moon! 🎉
My favorite has to be their cheesy garlic roll for starters, prawns (of course) for mains (let’s not forget about their succulent calamari) as well as their sides of creamy spinach & butternut which is definitely one of the best in Durban for me 👌🏻
Back to the competition, we won the Platter for 2 which consisted off prawns, calamari, hake, chips, rice, spinach & butternut - a real treat! 😍 We opted for the lemon butter sauce (again, one of the best in Durban!) & indulged in this feast fit for a king! 👑 (We had to be rolled out of there, that’s how satisfied we were 😹)
As for the service, I messaged the Regional Manager, Nazneem that evening around 8:45pm to notify her that we will be coming through.
When we got to the Westwood Mall branch, without saying anything from our side, we had Njabulo immediately be like, “Welcome, here’s your table, Nazneem told me you were coming.” & there it was, a beautiful table for two. That alone meant so much to me since #DateNight actually was going to look like how a typical Date Night should look like! 🥰
Njabulo was an amaaazing host, I can see Nazneem gave us her best one! We were served with a Cheesy Garlic Roll first as a starter which we didn’t know was part of the prize!
Our beautiful platter for two arrived shortly thereafter & it was beautifully presented with red onion, tomato & cucumber works of art - I mean presentation makes all the difference in the world guys! 🥰
I hope you foodies enjoyed this review & will give Jimmy’s Killer Prawns a visit! Despite this review being about the competition I had won, I have visited Jimmy’s at Westwood Mall numerous times before (will attach some pics from my previous experiences) & have received wonderful service & delicious food ever time - not forgetting value for money!
P.S: Have you tried their R89/R99 special which consists of 10 prawns & rice? That’s what you call value for money, I’ve had it & it was DIVINE. Keep your eyes glued to their Instagram page @jimmysdurban to see when they will be having the special next!
We will definitely be...
Read moreWow, I was just reading my review from 5 months ago, and how impressed I was , that I decided to go back, but what a mistake that was. This time around my experience was awful. We were welcomed at the entrance , by the Muslim Indian manager, I think, we quickly sat down, and before we could even open the menu, she wanted to bring us starters, which we dnt eat, so we told her to hold on. When I enquired about the drinks, she suggested a drink that would suit me, however when it came , the exact opposite came, called her back, said it must be some kind of mistake and she took it back, only to add ice. We then ordered our meals in intervals of 15 mins, so the food would not get cold, when the 2nd plates arrived, the waitress then ordered us to empty our plates, whatever we did not finish eat, into the new plate, which I thought that was very rude. We then woke up to wash our hands, and by the time, we came back the waitress was standing there with the bill, so we told her that, there were others on the table still finishing their meal, and she said she is sorry as this happened yesterday as well, with someone else. She was asked that we pay and leave immediately. Why , you may ask ? Because it was now close to iftaar time, and there was a long line outside that was building up with lots of people waiting to break fast. If they required the table at a particular time, we should have been told. But honestly we felt really bad being non Muslim, because our treatment given in terms of service was extremely poor. In terms of food, the prawns hardly had any sauce on it, and the portion of the rice size , went down to 1/4 cup. We will surely not be going back there, purely based on the treatment we were given. I really hope that in this month of Ramdaan, to the Muslim lady at the entrance, you reflect on...
Read moreFor starters, we opted for the garlic rolls... They were served smothered in the most amazingly mouth-watering sauce and had everybody going back for more...
For our Main, we had The Family Treat Platter... Honestly, looking at the menu I was very skeptical whether R650 would be worth it for the listed items... Oh Boy! When that platter arrived my jaw literally dropped... Firstly I have never seen a platter that big... Secondly it was loaded with food that I didnt know what to look at...
The Family Treat Platter consists of:
1 whole Chicken 1kg Medium Prawns (We opted for half lemon butter, half kashmiri) Crumbed Calamari A Grilled Line Fish 4 portions of Rice A portion of Chips
Drinks were purchased seperately...
The chicken was succulent and well basted... I am a complete novice to prawns, but I enjoyed the kashmiri flavour more than the lemon butter... I have tried calamari at a few restaurants recently and I must say that this one has taken the top position... I like that it maintained its crispiness and wasnt as chewy as the others I have tried... The line fish was not my favourite though and I kept going back to the chicken...
My only qualm is that I wish we had received more sauce but Im certain the waiters would have gladly obliged had we asked...
Five of us were able to devour as much as we could, and we still had some leftover!! Seeing is really believing and in retrospect, R650 is definitely worth it for the scrumptious meal we received...
Our waiter, Ibrahim, was extremely professional in his mannerism and greeted us with the warmest of smiles... The Manageress also came to check up that everything was fine and it is excellent service like this that guarantees customer loyalty
All in all this was a definite win for me and I will be sure to visit again soon - I recommend you...
