Breakfast disaster at Dros Rant-en-Dal! Arrived at 09h50, empty parking, lots of empty tables thinking, yeah, it is holiday season and a lot of people left Gauteng. Error 1, we were given the lunch/dinner menu...the waiter looked like he had a rough night! We asked for the breakfast menu. Drinks...took 20 minutes, breakfast, well, we have never seen any. The waiter vanished after taking one empty drinks glass never to be seen again for the next HOUR! We went asking what happened to breakfast, a fried egg cannot be that complicated to produce in one hour, merely as Dross Rant-En-Dal was empty at the time of arrival. At 10h55 went to the floor manageress...clueless, standing there like a statue, no emotions, no nothing. Told her am paying for the drinks and off we go. 'What did you order'...nobody had a clue (as the waiter was gone fishing) where, what, who and when. Suddenly, within 5 minutes, the breakfast was there, right next to the cashier, the four plates came out of the kitchen...ICE COLD... the manager apparead out of the kitchen apologizing, offered drink complimentary (thank you, the least you could do). 'Sometimes we get busy for breakfast as we open at 08h00' (empty restaurant on arrival?). In the commotion he said 'your breakfast is already ready'....I replied 'already????'. We left a 11h10 to another place in the area for ... lunch. The fault is not the manager/owner, the fault is employing totally incompetent staff. A waiter is supposed to be around, a waiter is supposed to follow up where a plated meal is. Pretty certain it was fly food standing there for over an hour. With a high unemployment rate in South Africa and Dros comes up with this kind of poorly trained (or simply a 9 - 5'ver attitude) staff, why bother, rather close down for the holidays or only serves beer as Dros Rant-en-Dal seems only to be able to deliver on that. A month later, we visited again and Leandri went over-and-above our expectations. She reacted on everything that I mentioned and rectified it. When we visited again, she made us feel so so special and I got to be part of the Dros that I know and love! It was the perfect experience and the best restaurant experience I have ever had! Thank you so much to Leandri and her team for all their brilliant work, service, food, everything was absolutely phenomenal! Thank you so much, will definitely been back soon!
Iโve been here a few times before writing a review and hereโs what I think: The food is generally always good so only compliments to the chefs. In general, service is friendly and decent even when it is busy. It seems though, that the standard has gone down considerably since I last visited a month or two ago. The service was still friendly, but incredibly slow and it felt like my waiter was in a rush to get done with our table when he did make time to check on us. I felt as though we were not being seen as, as important as the customers outside (busy section). The drinks came quick but we waited 25 minutes for an ashtray, and after I got impatient and wanted to fetch my own one my waiter came rushing to the table. At one point there was no waiters/bartenders/managers to be seen in the bar area where we were sitting. Also, the standard they had for the COVID regulations in place has gone considerably down - the sanitizer at the door doesnโt even have a working nozzle. Today both my partner and I got ill, presumably from the calamari as that was the only thing we shared.
In short, it used to be great but now itโs not...
ย ย ย Read moreI went here expecting a nice night out and I received the total opposite, my waiter (vuyisile) I only remember her name because she left a card with it on the table started the night of by yelling at the other waiters and arguing that we we're her customers, when she eventually got time to seat us she was rude and unprofessional, the food took over a hour to get to the table, it was served without cutlery and our waitress kept disappearing, drinks we ordered only came after multiple times of asking for them and when we wanted our bill we we're held up by another 30 minutes, don't go here the food is very bad, they don't have an idea of how to treat their guests and the managements best response to you will be sorry for the inconvenience, stay away, I beg you, service...
