26th December....the worst and most heart breaking R1000 spent at bilals cuisine....firstly I had called in at 10am on the morning of the 26th to inform of my reservation at 5pm...upon arriving I spoke to the receptionist at the front counter..firstly she seemed very confused as if I didn't make a reservation....she informed us that there is no lighting in some room so therefore we have to give them time to setup another table for us in another room in which now the aircon doesnt work(30 degree outside temperature)....assisted in setting up the tables ourselves although a reservation was made....we then got seated and began ordering...I would like to say that on this specific day there was no owner/manager or merely just someone in charge....everyone(staff) acted freely upon their own will..strolling up and down aimlessly...after ordering and waiting 1 full hour for the pathetic, dry, overcooked, oily, refried, microwaved, tasteless, frail and cold food we discovered that our dishes that we recieved were not ordered....the staff realized that items were out of stock and merely replaced them with other dishes not ordered by us. In other words I'm saying that my table was layed with dishes not ordered and I was obviously charged...leaving alone the ridiculous pricing and the pathetic portions. Examples are...we were given all leg pieces because breast portions were out of stock...we were only informed when the leg portions reached the table....we were also given wrong curries that the staff insisted were right(these were taken back...reheated and sent to us 3 times over...workers insisted they were swapped out totally for the right curries..THEY WERE NOT)..I expressed my sincere feelings of disgust and embarrassment in store explaining that i had invited guests over to join me for supper..the waiter with white braids had a terrible attitude and when I asked to speak to someone in charge the lady from the front desk appeared only to show us how incompetent she is....she had no solutions and only excuses...I will be coming back in store to speak to the owner himself....at one point I told my guests to please excuse me and wake up to leave the restaurant but they felt compelled to sit...the waiter then presented us proudly with a bill of over R1000...THE OWNER SHOULD BE EMBARRASSED OF SUCH A BUSINESS....on my way out I advised people waiting to enter expecting a good meal that this place is not for that and nobody should ever go through the experience of spending that amount of money on such a pathetic experience. Umair Jeebhai is the name... you'll see me soon in store. I was forced to give 1 star..the option of 0...
Read moreIMPORTANT!, Please read my review before going to billals, coming from a family that owned a restaurant, having chefs in my family and a chef as one of my best friend my words should carry weight, as far as their tikka, chicken, paratha (aloo paratha and aloo and cheese paratha) and naans are concerned it's A class excellent, their Seekh Kebaabs is by far the BEST in Durban really really excellent value for money, on the other hand swap out any dish that comes with steak pieces or rather before you order something with steak included, take a quick run down to the car, look for the cleanest tyre and chew on it because trust me the tyre will be softer than the steak you will get, also I have had thousands of curry dishes in my lifetime and iv never tasted a worse curry than the Vindaloo, a dish so bad it shouldn't be on the menu, do not order lamb curries i know old meat when i taste it and when you eat meat and you find the fat lining on it slimy and sticky know that the meat is very old, iv never been served a meat curry dish at any Indian restaurant that included large hard pieces of potato in it instead of extra meat, especially when the curries come so small nowadays in those tiny curry cups, and as for the taste I cant emphasize this enough, i wouldn't even give it to my dogs to eat let alone humans, another point, if for any reason its raining avoid billals or make sure your family has medical aid because someone is bound to slip on the stairs, no effort to install strips of aluminium non slip material or anything else. I can only comment on what I have eaten, I hope I was of some assistance to your eating...
Read moreI've always eaten at Billals Cuisine. Since the Beachfront restaurant was very busy I decided to try this one out. Never again would I ever compromise! This was such a disappointment. I went to this place because my cousin did a review and she was happy but I couldn't say the same. We order a ½ chicken tikka, which came with chips and salad (mind you, the salad was lettuce and onions cut into thick chunks), the oreo milkshake was warm and no taste at all. we ordered garlic naan and regular butter naan. The naans were cold and when the butter naan came it was spread with Rama and it didn't even melt. The water and ice tea I bought were cold and I had to ask for ice. When I asked the waiter to move us to another table because the table we were seated had nails coming out and it wasn't comfortable, he made comments in Isizulu as to why we moving around and we wasting his time by making him clean other tables. The tikka was not as nice as the beachfront Bilaals. Absolutely not worth the money. As for the waiter, he didn't even add the Bombay crush ice cream that I had ordered, and when I went to pay because I wasn't happy and irritated he kept on demanding a tip. But Ya never again.
Another thing, the lady at the counter needs to be taught etiquette because she has no idea how to help customers to their seats and she was eating at the counter. I can understand it's lunch but that's not the place to eat. She was lost in her own world. So my advice, Try bilaals at North Beach, they never...
