Colaba Ice Cream & Dessert Studio — Restaurant in Morningside

My first experience here was unfortunately horrible. I had a waffle with ice cream and strawberries. Each of which was separately charged for😐. The waffle was thick, cakey and did not taste fresh. It tasted nothing like I had expected it to be. The strawberries did not taste fresh at all! The ice cream however was an 8/10. This restaurant lacked hospitality. Waitress, named Tiffany, looked uninterested and was extremely rude. I did not know that she was serving my family and I when another waitress was taking my order. Tiffany stood next to that waitress and rudely said, "Excuse me! I'm taking your order." It felt like I was being shouted at by my mother. Towards the end of this experience, my family and afew friends were sitting and talking. We waited 20 minutes for the bill?? The owner asked us to indirectly to leave as he "needed tables" for the next customers waiting outside. I found that to be extremely unprofessional and embarrassing as people were looking at us as we left. We Got Kicked Out. This was my first and last experience. Even Spur has way better customer service and they are 10x busier. If there is a queue outside waiting for tables, they NEVER ask their customers to get up and leave. They wait! Hated it.

Secondly, the owner Afzal Jagot, DOES NOT know of good customer service or how to handle conflict situations. It's a basic life skill. Before writing this review, I have read the positive and negative reviews. He is extremely nice to the people who give his restaurant 5 stars, but tk the people who give - 4 stars, he is very rude and abrupt in his responses. He cannot see it as constructive criticism! I am honestly expecting him to respond to this in a very DISRESPECTFUL way. Apart from the waitress Tiffany, the waitress who was serving me before Tiffany shouted at me like a grumpy old woman, was extremely warm, hospitable and answered all of my questions regarding the confusing menu. I wish I got her name:/ I Do Not care how much this hurts Afzals business. His restaurant DOES NOT even deserve 1 star.

dear Afzal, please don't leave me your number for me to contact you and don't try to be a 'keyboard warrior' and say that you want to "understand my gripe" or "record the facts" as you clearly love saying so much. Do Not tell me to be "truthful" or to "behave like a muslim", when you yourself don't ever respond to negative reviews professionally. Desserts were nice and a very good portion size for the price. The milkshake however, not worth R80. It was just a regular coffee milkshake. Place is nice and clean. Good atmosphere

To add to your response, we ordered a milkshake as per your menu. Whether we received what we ordered is something you should ask your staff. It looked like a regular wimpy milkshake and we most certainly did not have a dollop of cream on it. I have attached the photos I took that evening (2/12/2002) but unfortunately I don't have a pic of the milkshake.

In regards to your response, if you read my review clearly I had simply stated that the coffee milkshake I had ordered was not worth R80. I gave no such detail as to how which one that was as you have quickly jumped to the conclusion that I ordered the one you stipulated so in that respect, I have made no 'misinterpretation' at all.

I will be back again soon as I did enjoy your desserts there and will speak to you face to face if you are available.

Tried this last night. I had the Bastani Sonnati flavour, which was tasty. However, the price is NOT justifiable. R35 for a scoop (1 flavour only, and a fairly small scoop), then an additional R10 for a cone! So, R45 for a smallish scoop of ice cream, not even gelato! I'm not willing to pay this much when I can get proper gelato, 2 flavours and a larger quantity in a cone for a fair bit cheaper. Won't be back.

update 20 December 2020 Afzal (the owner) subsequently responded (see response below). In your response you make it seem as if I do not understand the difference between handcrafted ice cream and gelato, nor the difference between an ordinary and sugar cone. I consider myself an aficionado on ice cream and gelato, having eaten many of these on my extensive travels globally and domestically. Believe me when I say that I certainly understand the differences. I appreciate your product, what I do not appreciate is the fact that it is way overpriced. If the product had been mind blowing, I would have been happy to pay the price. However, for the discerning palate this just...
