Hua Doo Restaurant — Restaurant in Overstrand Local Municipality

My family dined at Hua Doo on a Friday evening. It is under new management so some of the older 1* reviews are no longer relevant (and did not align to the fantastic experience that I had there).

Their menu is mostly 'westernised' Chinese food (e.g. fried noodles / rice) but if like me, you prefer more authentic Chinese food, they can make that as well on request.

I highly recommend the 鱼香茄子 (fish-fragrant aubergine). I don't think it is on the menu but definitely worth ordering! In general, I would suggest letting the owner NiNi recommend dishes to you.

Hermanus has been without an authentic Chinese restaurant for many years - it is good to see that that is no longer the case!

Also, there is plenty of parking and the restaurant is spacious but it is worth booking in advance...

What a fabulous find, now called Hau.Doo restaurant in Main Road Sandbaai, Hermanus. Well it was all we wanted and more. The staff were fantastic, nothing was too much to ask, courteous, friendly and well informed and and then the FOOD - we had starters of various dumpling and tempura prawns, then 7 dishes which we shared between us and although the portions are big, we managed to finish most of it uttering lots of oohs and aahs as it was so good and not the western imitation that passes here in South Africa. Please, do yourself a favor and GO TRY IT OUT FOR YOURSELF, well worth it! PS. Previously lived in Asia for...

We went early evening on a Friday. We were one of 3 tables. Being newly opened I hope that there will be more table occupied because the interior is very nicely done. More tables will enhance the vibrancy.

The service was a let down. Friendly and enthusiastic, but not very efficient. With so few occupied tables I am not sure what the excuse could be.

The highlight was the food. It was delicious. It is more expensive than the Asian franchise round the corner but the quality was worth the slightly greater expense.

Looking forward to going back and seeing...
