If I could score a 0, that would be it. You don't pick up an order from Wild Horse, you have to collect it at Gringos. Do they operate from the same kitchen? Would be interesting to understand the operation and the regulatory adherence.
Anyway, imagine ordering a pizza with no olives on it, and receiving a pizza WITH OLIVES. We removed the olives, those who eat olives had a taste. They were tasteless and had a rubbery consistency! An absolute shock, I've never tasted olives that had no flavour, were they on display? The pizza also barely had any meat, looked like ham, but the pizza had to have ham, salami and bacon. None of that was present.
We specifically requested a plain Margherita pizza FOR CHILDREN, no spice, no herbs or any form of garnish. It came with roasted tomatoes after we clearly asked that it has no toppings. I mean, what is a MARGHARITA PIZZA?? The taste was so terrible, I've never had flavorless pizza before. And the children barely finished a slice each because it didn't taste good. They're 7 and used to proper cooking. If a 7 year old can taste the waste of money....
We also ordered 2 sets of Eisbein, with mash, Sauerkraut and Mustard. Presentation means nothing, the containers were oily everywhere, even underneath. The mash was dry, hard and had no salt. The Eisbein still had hair on the skin. Why not just send a squeeling pig and tell us to slaughter it ourselves. It all went to the bin. Then the 2 burgers ordered were literally just average. It looked average, but was at least edible. The fries were terrible, they looked nice but were oily and tasted reheated. Prices are not that bad, but it's clear you get what you pay for. And options are limited in the area at dinner time.
Though there are hidden gems in Kleinmond, do yourself a favour and go to Hermanus instead if you can, on Sundays don't order late, don't have high expectations or standards and most certainly be ok with throwing your money on the bin. It's what we did, and our family doesn't believe in wasting. But we are solid cooks, with a strong knowledge of GOOD FOOD, the restuarant industry and how to prepare food WELL.
We will not order again, we vote with our money and a review, because you can't get the time, moment or effort back but you can certainly give others a heads up. Maybe it's a local favourite, but we've had better in the Overberg region. Adjust the prices if you have to, but certainly do better. PS: No, we did not call the restuarant to complain. It was after 30 minutes before they closed the kitchen, too far to drive back not worth the stress, time and unnecessary...
Read moreOn Saturday the 29th of July, myself and my wife went out for dinner at the wild horse in Kleinmond. It was for birthday celebrations and the fact that we left the kids at our parents for the first time in 4 and a half years to double as a date night. We arrived at 20h00 and was rushed by the waitress to take our meal orders before 20h30. Then our burgers arrived @R130 each, my wife's nachos burger bun burned black along with the chicken peace on it!! To make matters worse, again just past 21h00 we where again reminded by the waitress that we should order our last round and can head down stairs to there bar area to finish our drink!! By 21h45 all the lights was switched off except for the table we where sitting at with sheff Willem annoyed as fxxk. Feeling extremely uncomfortable and made clear that we should leave, I told my wife we should get up and just go. Before we left I told sheff Willem politely that I have never in my life been rushed to order and drink and get out for almost 2 hours in any restaurant ever. Sheff Willem told me in his words the following after what I pointed out to him he said... “ek gaan nie dat julle 2 my kom kak vertel oor ons reels nie, ons maak 10 uur toe!! “. I was dumb struck by this comment and just left, I still cannot believe how a bussenis that treat it's client's like this survive in times like these. Thank you to Sheff Willem and the waitresses for completely messing up what should have been an amazing evening out for husband and wife. Just to be clear, we only wanted to stay until closing time @ 22h00 and not a minute longer as we know the hospitality industry. This was our first time visit but surely the last time and I would not for one moment recommend anyone to The wild horse restaurant unless you are in an extreme hurry to eat, drink...
Read moreWe arrived at 19.15. Our name was not on the reservations after phoning and making a booking. Never-less, we were showed to a table. This was where the nice part of the experience ended. We ordered our food at 19.30 and waited until 20.40 for it to arrive. Our request for salt & pepper was acknowledged but ignored. I borrowed the salt from the table of the patrons next to us. The food was really sub standard. The prawns my wife had was overcooked to a pulp. The rib and chicken wing combo i had was ice cold. The waiter (singular) was absent apart from bringing our food and the bill naturally. When i complained about the time it took for our food to be served, she said there was a big table in the adjacent room upstairs that took most of their time & attention. Well this local couple will definitely NOT go back to the Wild Horse in Kleinmond again!
Truly bad experience from a dining & service point of view
Further to the response of the uninformed owner… The response from your staff is not true. I phoned an hour before we arrived. The waitress did not seat us. It was a gentleman that seated us. At no stage did he or the waitress which was eventually allocated to us, inform us that we will have to wait for food. In any event, even if we had to wait for food, it should still be properly prepared. Its not as if it is the cheapest place in town to dine out. But you unfortunately...
