Henri's Restaurant and Wine Bar — Restaurant in Somerset West

Incredibly disappointed that I have to update my review on Henri's. Had the most appalling and rude service from our waitress. The name was Shez on the bill.

We asked about the price of the eisbein which was not on the menu. She literally huffed, rolled her eyes, put her hands up and blurted - I'll go check. It was the rudest and most disgusting reaction to a simple question I've ever experienced - and at such a fine establishment! I also, unfortunately, feel there was a racial component as we were the only people of colour there and although the waitress was too she obviously did not think we had the money or the right skin colour to be there.

It took ages for our order to be taken and we waited an hour for our food. My parents were visiting and I wanted them to have a lovely lunch with my fiancé and I before they left today. But it was ruined by this staff member. She also spoke incredibly loudly. You could hear her at the other tables in another room which was also off putting. She made comments that I think she thought were charming but weren't. The food was lovely but I left with a bitter taste in my mouth.

I would not be surprised if other people had this experience and just decided not to go again and not say anything. And although I wanted to say something while there I was convinced by those at the table to just let it go and enjoy the day. But I decided to update my review because it is not acceptable to be treated in such a way when you are a paying customer.

My parents still insisted on tipping and even said they would come back because of the food. However, I will not be back again. And I will not recommend Henri's because of this experience. There are many fine restaurants in the area WITH excellent...

One can see that attention to detail is of high concern to this establishment. The staff are well trained and give good service. They have a wide variety of options on the menu.

For the most part I enjoyed the food here. The prawn starter and waffle were good choices. Sadly I did not feel the same way about the steak.

As someone one who enjoys their steak medium to well done and makes his own steak medium to well done at home I can say, in my opinion, their rump steak is disgusting.

I was instructed by the manager that I had requested the steak medium to well done so according to him there was nothing wrong with the meat. I left the incredibly unpleasant food experience at that. There was no offer to try to correct the food so I guess I was just plain wrong.

I'm not an expert on steak so I'm reporting purely from my bad experience. When I make my steak medium to well done at home I never ever char the meat to such an extent that all the fat on the meat is pitch black leaving the taste of the meat bitter. Come to think of it I had a piece of meat medium to well from hassar grill and they didn't char it to the point that the meat was bitter.

I politely tried to bring my experience of the food to managements attention and was told that I was incorrect.

There was no attempt at correcting the negative food experience. I was left to not enjoy my meal which I did without further word on the matter.

elderly palm colored guy standing on porch saw me approach locked gate to enter & leaned back a bit so wouldn’t be seen anymore. believed it was the side or back entrance. walked around to front of building. nope, that is indeed the entrance to the back, locked. walked again to the same entrance and pressed the call button. it was buzzed open a few seconds later. i walked through & up the stairs on the front porch and was met before entered main door by the same palm colored guy. His response was, “Can i help you?” me: “here to eat like everyone else.” odd question and way to greet a customer. he motioned over a waiter… a younger palm colored 20 something .. i asked to view the menu before sitting. asked some questions about the dishes was considering of the waiter and received very short, attitude laced answers. i left.
