Jerry's Burger Bar Blouberg — Restaurant in Table View

I've been a fan of Jerry's restaurant in Blouberg for a while now and have always enjoyed the food and atmosphere. I visited a couple of Fridays ago, on January 31st, and had a slightly unusual experience. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted warmly and seated quickly, which was great. However, my interaction with the waitress that evening was a little…off. It wasn't anything overtly negative, but there was a distinct "mean girl" vibe that made me feel a bit discouraged. For example, when I asked about the drinks, she mentioned they'd take a while, almost as if trying to dissuade me. Later, when I checked in with her about the drinks and asked if I could change my order since there was a wait, she seemed hesitant and said she'd "see." Thankfully, I did get the drink I wanted. The same thing happened when I ordered food. She again mentioned a long wait time and questioned if I was sure I wanted to order. I said yes, and interestingly enough, my food arrived in under 20 minutes, if not 15 minutes! Which was a pleasant surprise, as I'd ordered my usual burger and knew what to expect. The food itself was, as always, delicious. No complaints there at all! The whole evening was just punctuated by those underlying vibes from the waitress. Nothing specific was said, but her demeanor made me feel a little uncomfortable. My bill came to R215, and I paid a total of R250, which I felt was a reasonable tip, considering I tried to remain polite and courteous throughout the evening. It was a little surprising that there wasn't even a simple "thank you" when I paid. I'm not expecting grand gestures, but a "thank you" is just common courtesy, I think. Overall, it was a weird evening. The food was good. The initial welcome was lovely, but the interaction with the waitress definitely put a bit of a damper on...

7th January 2025 I had dinner with my family that came to cape town for holiday all the way from Switzerland. It was their 3rd or 4th time visiting this branch since they've been down. They love the place.

However, on this day we were served by Uwemi. She took our order individually and told her what our sides were for the meals. When the food came, the order was wrong. We got regular fries instead of sweet potato. Uwemi wasn't very friendly or interactive with the table. Uwemi only came to the table if we called her. After telling her the order was wrong we just left it as is and informed her to make sure the bill was not over charged.

Whenever someone ordered additional items, she wouldn't go around the table asking if anyone else needed anything. Never smiling, just basically waiting for her shift to end so she can get paid, it seems.

We received the bill and we went through every item and they still charged us for the sweet potato fries.

The best part was, when we decided to complain to the manager, who wasn't also very particularly friendly, Uwemi decided to backchat and argue with my sister that she never took the order and that someone else did. We're not stupid. We know Uwemi took the order. Eye contact is very important and we all have great vision.

If you go with a group of 8 pax or more. You will be charged a service fee. The manager advised that this information is in the menu but there was nothing. We were not informed when making the reservation that there is a service fee. This kind of information cannot be forgotten when speaking to customers.

After the end of this, the manager sounded very aggressive and told us that if we are not happy then we don't have to pay the service fee.

Yesterday was my partners birthday, so we decided to go out for dinner. Feeling keen for a good burger, we chose to go to Jerry's Burger Bar in Blouberg....what a mistake that was.

We ordered some drinks and a few minutes later ordered our meals (my partner ordered the Jack D Burger and I ordered the Jerry's burger). I requested that my burger patty be cooked medium-well done as I personally do not like undercooked beef.

Upon arrival of our meals, it looked as though the burgers had fallen apart on their way from the kitchen. Unfortunately my burger patty was completely pink and undercooked to the point that I feared the patty would start mooing and jump off my plate, despite my request to the waitress (in fact it looked more undercooked than medium rare even). My partners burger patty was not cooked any better.

The burgers were also bland and the bottoms were soggy. Considering the ingredients are listed in the meal options on the menu, one would expect flavourful meals. My partners burger was tasteless with no sign of any Jack D sauce. My burger had no flavour what so ever and was a mushy mess. The only thing that saved my meal were the skinny cut fries.

There were only a few other diners in the restaurant at the time of ordering our meals, so there was no excuse of the kitchen being super busy and just trying to get the food out as quick as possible for the meal quality to be as low as it was.

For the prices being charged for meals (Jerry's Burger = R165), I personally feel that customers are being ripped off due to the poor quality, lack of interest in flavour and presentation, and disregard for customer requests. Our bill came to R900 which was wasted on underwhelming food for a special occasion.
