본참치 (bon chamchi tuna) — Restaurant in Busan

Thanksgiving 2024. I was supposed to be eating sushi in Tokyo. Alas, it wasn’t meant to be. Due to severe snowy weather in Seoul, my flight was cancelled, along with many others. The next flight out I could book was a day later, from Busan.

And so, I spent my Thanksgiving in and out of airports and stations, riding subways and trains. Exhausted, famished, I arrived in Busan at dusk. Checked into my hotel and looked for dinner. Set on sushi, I came across this restaurant.

Folks, let me tell you… if ever there was a Thanksgiving feast in the form of raw fish, this place has it. Bountiful, beautiful plate after plate of lord knows what but it sure tasted good.

As I left — and I was sad to leave — I made my way down the street. Bolting after me came the chef (who I read is of some renown). When he caught up to me he bowed and thanked me. As though I’D just made HIM one of the best and most memorable Thanksgiving meals of his life. No, no, sir. Thank YOU.

So this is officially known as the Republic of Naminara, a culturally "independent" state from South Korea. It's whimsical and full of beautiful vegetation. Bunnies run wild as they chase each other around the trees. You can rent a bike for an hour and that way you can see all of the island in a relatively short amount of time. The Korean food restaurant had some of the best bulgogi (Korean beef barbecue) I've ever had. It's a cute and relaxing place to visit. Don't be fooled by the nearby town, Gapyeong. It is a small town that looks like you might have gotten of the wrong station. The train station has a taxi and bus station right outside that will take you to Nami Island, The Garden of Morning Calm, Petit France and other tourist...

What a great experience. Found this place by accident, just looking for average sashimi for a late lunch. Went in and bought just the basic 50k course for 2 people. (100k total) The amount of food and the quality of food we're unreal! Satisfied would be an understatement. The service was really good too. All staff were very friendly and kind and made an effort to help us in english and made us feel very welcome. One of the best restaurants I have been to in...
