Kalguksu is always different wherever you go. So its best for me to try and describe it. The soup is quite thick. Almost like an egg drop soup. It does come with egg as well as toasted sesame or maybe poppy seeds? The standard does have some powdered chili so you might want to ask them to omit that if thats not your thing. I ended up putting extra gochukaru. The noodles are more rounded like pasta noodles rather than the flat kalguksu noodles I am used to. The mandu is a smaller more juicy type that was really good too. The kimchi ones are quite spicy. Thisnplace shows up over and over on lists of best places to eat in Jeonju for a reason.

Veteran Noodle was recommended by a local and it did not disappoint. I had one of three dishes offered on the menu. It was a cold and rainy day so the Noodle Soup was my choice. The servers had very limited english, but no worries the menu is in english and all you have to do is point. Be sure to have your method of payment ready because you pay when the food is served. The perilla seed added that nutty taste to the broth and the chili powder makes you wanting more and more. Cool off your taste buds with the pickled daikon (side) it is so refreshing and sweet a great compliment to the salty umami soup. Two thumbs up!

Food was super delicious. I got the main noodle soup (hot noodle I think) along with meat mandu. Staff speaks English. They have an English menu too. Price is insanely cheap for the value of the food. Come with an empty stomach though, it’s a lot of food. For foreigners that don’t eat at Korean restaurants often, look for a drawer on the side of your table which has napkins and silverware. It is a little loud in there so if you’re looking for a fun meal out, this is the place, but it’s not quiet or cozy by any stretch.
