Nolboo Budae — Restaurant in Seoul

I visited this place with a friend while I was vacationing in Seoul, and it turned out to be a thoroughly disappointing experience. Despite a large poster of ginseng chicken plastered on their doors, we were the only ones eating it in the entire restaurant—a clear red flag we should have noticed.

The chicken was overcooked, mostly bones with barely any meat. The broth was bland and lacked the richness you’d expect from a dish like this.

To make matters worse, the service was pushy and uncomfortable. The staff kept trying to hard-sell us on ordering two portions, despite our clear reluctance and the fact that what’s on our table was already enough for two adult diners. It felt less like a dining experience and more like a sales pitch.

Interestingly, other diners seemed to be having hot pot, which might suggest their ginseng chicken is more of a neglected menu item than a specialty.

Overall, the poor food quality, aggressive upselling, and lackluster service made this visit far from enjoyable.

Aunties were very anxious to serve, didnt even hear my order correctly. We only realised when the served ingredients looked different from what we ordered. To rectify their mistake, they gave a meagre amount of 3 small shrimps & some intestines.

놀부 부대찌개는 놀부 브랜드에서 보쌈 다음으로 분야를 확장하여 부대찌개와 철판구이를 판매하는 체인점입니다. 놀부 기업은 한국 요리 전문 프랜차이즈 브랜드. 말 그대로 한식을 전문으로 취급하는 대표적인 외식 프랜차이즈 기업으로 잘 알려져 있죠. 1999년 2월에 놀부 부대찌개가 런칭된 후 여러 체인점들이 늘어나게 된 계기가 되었다고 생각합니다.

전국 주요 도심에 매장이 많이 분포해있는데, 저는 이번 서울에 방문했을 때 강남 중심가에 위치한 강남씨티점에 들렀습니다. 매장 내부는 2인, 4인 테이블로 구성되어있고, 연중무휴 24시간 영업이다보니 항상 사람들이 많은 곳입니다. 그래도 저녁시간이 약간 지난 오후 7시라 웨이팅 없이 들어갔습니다. 직원분의 안내에 따라 좌석에 착석 후 직접 주문하는 방식입니다.

놀부 부대찌개 메뉴판입니다. 기본 부대찌개 단품부터 곱새, 철판 요리에 사리를 추가하여 먹는 방식입니다. 부대떡볶이의 별미에 사이드도 다양하게 있고, 부대세트도 인기있는 구성으로 잘 되어있으니 참고바랍니다. 저희는 기본 놀부 부대찌개 2인분으로 주문했습니다.

주문 직후 모듬소시지, 김치, 라면, 콩 등이 들어간 부대찌개와 간단한 밑반찬들이 나왔습니다. 가스불을 켜고 팔팔 끓기 시작한 후 3-4분 정도 더 끓이면 알맞게 익은 부대찌개 완성입니다! 공깃밥은 기본 밥그릇에 가득 담겨져 나오고, 밥을 더 먹고 싶다라하면 추가해야 하니 참고하세요~

​부대찌개가 팔팔 끓게 되면 가스불을 1단으로 낮추어 따뜻하게 유지해서 먹으면 됩니다. 가장 먼저 라면사리부터 먹는데, 면은 잘 익어있지만 육수가 잘 배이지 않아 밀가루맛과 육수의 맛이 다음으로 햄, 소시지를 먹는데 그냥저냥 평범한 맛이고, 개인적으로 국물이 많은 상태임에도 짠 맛이 강했습니다. 얼큰한 국물인 것은 맞는데 진한 맛이라기 보다는 육수맛, 매콤한맛이 따로 느껴졌습니다.
