My husband and I came on this trip as a 'babymoon' while I was 26 weeks pregnant.
The hotel decor itself is nice, clean facilities and the housekeeping team did a wonderful job. We're both vegetarian and they had plenty of veggie options for food. They also had a good selection of alcohol free beverages (alcohol free beers, mocktails, plenty of soft drink options). The area around the hotel is very quiet, but does have a handful of decent restaurants, mini marts etc.
We arrived late to the hotel due to a delayed flight (obviously not the hotel's fault) so we checked in at about 10.30. Because of the flight provider giving away our booked meals, we hadn't eaten since that morning. We asked the hotel receptionist (a woman with short brown hair) if there was anywhere we could find food nearby and she immediately said 'no, everything is closed.' We later found out this wasn't true, and there were nearby food places open until 11. She also said we couldn't have our welcome drink, because it was too late. I made a request for an extra pillow in the bedroom (I had emailed before and told it was fine) to support my pregnancy bump. She said 'Nobody from housekeeping is here, so you'll have to just manage for tonight.' She didn't even try. You're telling me there wasn't one spare pillow available in the whole hotel that night?! This meant that my husband had to sleep without a pillow so I could sleep safely for pregnancy.
Another issue we had on reception is when I booked a pregnancy massage (around 100 euros). I was sat around the pool and the massage therapist approached and said she could offer me 10% off and an extra 15 minutes treatment. She gave me the business card as a voucher. I went for my massage and the therapist asked for the card, I gave it to her. Another member of staff approached the massage room during my massage and was talking to her through the wall, not very relaxing! I did NOT get the extra 15 minutes massage using the voucher, in fact the massage I was given was shorter than the advertised length. The therapist told me to pay at reception. I headed straight to reception and told them I'd like to pay. A man served me and tried to charge me the full amount. I explained I'd received the 10% discount. He said no problem and changed the amount on the card machine. Unfortunately, the card machine wasn't working so he told me to come back later.
I left it about an hour then returned and there was a woman with short red hair working there. She was present previously when the man applied the discount but she told me 'I can't give you discount because I haven't seen the voucher.' I said I'd given it to the massage therapist and she'd kept it, and the man had said it was fine. She was very rude and said 'Well guests have lied before about this and reception will get charged the difference if you're lying'. She said she'd speak to the therapist to check I 'wasn't lying.' I stood and waited but she said 'no, come back later. I don't have time to go check now.' At the pool, I saw the same therapist there and I told her the problem. She told me she would sort it and went straight to reception. I followed her and asked if I could pay now. The woman at reception was angry at me for speaking to the therapist and said 'I TOLD you I would sort it later. Why have you come back now?!' I told her I just wanted to pay. As she took my payment, she was speaking to another member of staff in spanish. They were clearly talking about me, looking directly at me, rolling her eyes and laughing/smirking at me. This made me feel awful - like I had done something wrong by paying. By this point I was exhausted going back and forth, and felt humiliated as she stood taking my payment, laughing at me and bad-mouthing me with her colleague. After paying, I went back to my husband at the pool and cried about the way I had been treated. Heavily pregnant, on 'holiday' and sat crying because I had been disrespected by a vile member of staff. For a hotel that prides itself on wellbeing, I have never experienced such...
Read moreMynd hotel is in a great location. It is a quiet area, a short walk from the beach. There are shops including supermarkets on the same road, as well as many bars and restaurants.
The hotel room was clean and comfortable. The bathroom had a great shower, although there was a peculiar drainage smell that occasionally appeared, but would go once the water had been run for a while. -of note: the rooms do not have tea/coffee making facilities. There are water stations you can fill a bottle up across the hotel, and a mini fridge you can stock as you wish, however tea and coffee needs to be purchased from the bars or the breakfast hall.
We stayed in a "swim up" room, which essentially meant there was a small pool outside the room that you can sit in. The pool runs across several rooms, and is divided by underwater walls that ensure your section is not encroached upon. It does also mean you cannot actually swim in it and need to use the main pool for such activity.
The rooftop bar is a lovely area to enjoy a drink. There are plenty of lounge chairs, canopy beds and table seating, along with shades and umbrellas to ensure your comfort. The drinks are good and the views fantastic- sea on one side and mountains on the other. It closes at 8pm which whilst understandable due to the quiet area, is a bit of a shame if you don't want to go out to another bar but aren't quite ready to turn in yet.
Breakfast is buffet style, with all the usual products on offer: cereals, fruit, breads, pastries, cheeses, meats and fresh cooked egg products and bacon. There is a nice offering of local products. There are 3 coffee machines which provide very nice coffee but which were very temperamental and often 1 or 2 of them were broken. There is a selection of tea, however the cups provided are very small, the tea rather weak and the hot water was provided from a water urn which was not hot enough to properly brew tea. If you are a tea lover, you may find it a little disappointing. Staff were very good at clearing tables and plates away so there was always a table to sit at even during the busier times. Personal favourite of breakfast is the juice bar. Where several different juices are on offer, the lovely green detox juice is a wonderful thing to start the day with!
We booked the half board option, which meant we had €25 per person to spend on food and drink each day- this amount could be used across the entire stay and if we didn't want to use it on dinner, we could use it on snacks or bar drinks. Essentially you had a credit against your room and if you overspend, You just pay the balance on departure. If you don't spend it, you don't get it as a refund. I liked this system and it worked well for us.
Dinner is the most difficult thing to review about Mynd. We ate in the hotel restaurant 4 times for dinner, and whilst the food was delicious, each time we had a meal, something went awry:
These were at worst minor inconveniences and the food we did have was delicious (excepting my empanada dessert!). It was raised as a concern about the frequency of issues to the hotel via their online help application. The chatbot could not deal with our comments and advised that a staff member would be in touch. They have not been in touch. If the issues had been serious we would have spoken directly to whatever management...
Read moreFirst of all we’ve been here for 9 days, staying for another 3. Decided to write my review early due to increasing disappointment.
The receptionists have been impeccable and made our stay pleasant and welcoming. One staff member in particular (Sophia) has been amazing since we stepped foot in this hotel up until now. I can’t say anything bad about her at all. She has gone above and beyond for me & my partner our entire stay.
The room is lovely. However, the noise all the time is rather frustrating. You can be relaxing in your room and hear loud noises of furniture being dragged across the floor or loud music being played by other guests so loud I had to make 3 individual complaints.
The half board idea seemed so good to start but after around 4 days we was fed up with the restaurant staff and their can’t do attitude. We wanted crepes but they said the crepes were only for the kids… we had crepes for breakfast so why can’t they be on the main menu. Crepes aren’t just for kids, same goes for pizza. We ended up having to order a pizza for delivery elsewhere because of this pathetic policy. Also, I wanted mint chocolate chip ice cream but both ground and rooftop bars didn’t serve it but the restaurant only would with the brownie. I got so fed up I ordered 2 Brownies & a cone and took the mint choc Ice cream from the brownies and put them in my cone… why is this the length we had to go to enjoy a simple ice cream.
They are seriously missing a trick having such a limiting menu because it makes it somewhere you can’t eat at everyday. Even being half board we’re finding ourselves eating outside the hotel most days and struggling to use up our €50 a day credit.
I’ve ordered from the bottom floor restaurant multiples times. One time we ordered 2 mains & 2 drinks and we had to make 6 different complaints on the order being wrong. More often than not at least one part of the order is wrong. Examples include; being given salad in a burger when asked for without, vegetables in the steak wok when asked for without, Fritz lemon when asking for a classic lemonade, and an apple pie when asking for a Fritz apple. There are many many more examples but I’d run out of space in the review.
There’s also no room service.. every hotel I’ve ever been to has had room service. Not even an iron in my room… an iron is not something you take with you in your luggage and is a basic necessity in a hotel, how am I supposed to iron my shirts for dinner?
All these disappointments aside, the hotel itself is lovely with modern and clean rooms. But there’s an extreme lack of entertainment / activities. Only activities include the two pools, volleyball, and a basketball court. They could easily do daily water polo, volleyball matches. There’s plenty of space for a couple of pool tables/table tennis. And the basketball court would be much more utilised if it was a multi purpose court for basketball, football and tennis.
Overall, it feels as if it’s made for people of an older age with a couple things thrown in for younger people.
Tonight I decided to come to the restaurant and give it another go… yet to no surprise I did not get what I ordered, it’s not difficult to make an order correctly. I don’t know whether it’s the language barrier between staff or the kitchen themselves but I’m appalled by such terrible service in the restaurant… i would not recommend coming if you want a enjoyable and...
