The costumer is never right..?

It was not a busy Saturday evening when we arrived, but yet, the service was a bit slow. We waited for about 15 minutes before they waiter presented the menu. The hand written board indicates that the kitchen change their menu regularly in respect of what's available and in season and I respect this. It gives the chef the challenge and freedom to constantly experiemnt and improve. The waiter was not very knowledgeable or helpful for the wine, so we went for the safe choice with a Tierra Crianza. Despite the slow service, our food arrived fast. We had a filet steak and moules steamed in white wine (the option for moules was natural, white wine or garlic and cream) The steak was perfectly medium rare and with regular french fries on the side. Two sauces, a bearnaise and a peppersauce. The pepper sauce was to the oily side but very tasty, the bearnaise was thin and had with too much vinegar in it. The moules where served very authentic Belgian in a pot with french fries on the side. The moules where big, fresh and clean, steamed with sellery and onion rings. But from here it went downhill. The broth was compleetly tasteless. There was not even a hint of white wine in the broth not a hint of the acidity that one would expect. I called the waiter that quicky took the dish to the kitchen and came back saying, that white wine had been added but the chef could add more whine now if I wished. I declined, that would ofcauae ruin the dish, the mussels where already steamed and adding wine now, the alcohol in the wine would not be able to evaporate. Another waiter approached us and from here the whole experience took a dark turn, he directly and in an irritated tone started to argue that the wine was added, but it was a cheap whine, not from a bottle. Later the chef came to make his point, and it ended with a loud and very unpleasant argument. He admitted he haven't tasted the dish, but it was how Belgians had made it for hundreds of years. At the end, he shouted that no matter of I was going to eat it or not, I would have to pay for it. Is the costumer always right? Definitely not. And I didn't come to argue, get a discount or in any way insult the staff, all I wished for was a tasty dish of moules, and I didn't receive that, nor any understanding or apologies. All in all it was an unpleasant visit. Slow service and staff that rather wants to argue than listen...

Wow. This is the best restaurant we've eaten at in our 8 weeks in the Canarias - and we almost always eat out so we've been to a lot. The meu is full of unique dishes and the food is so good. Our first experience was when we arrived in Callao Salvaje and needed internet to connect with the manager of our vacation rental. It was early afternoon and the staff we're just setting up chairs; we asked if we could use there internet. "Yes, for sure, sit down" said the waiter. I ordered a coffee to be polite. As we sent a email and waited for a reply the waiter asked if he could bring us drinks - on the house. We accepted. A few minutes later he asked if we would like a half price appetizer of coconut shrimp. We accepted. All this AND free internet? A few nights later we came to eat dinner and it was fantastic! Service was excellent except that the waitress forgot to place our dessert order. When it didn't come we said that was ok and paid the bill. Before we left, our dessert showed up on our table - free of charge. It was banana flambe and they did something different with the sauce (maybe a little lemoncello?) . I couldn't be more impressed. We've got three more weeks here and we'll be frequenting...

Lovely meal. Great service too. Free Gazpacho and bread with a coronation chicken I think? Lovely. Then we ordered 2 mains separately and split them between us. Prawns were stunning then the ribs after. Just wow. Chips and sald good too. Going again tonight... chicken for the wife. Me not sure yet....defo recommend oh just to add we had the half chicken tonight. Even though the kitchen was closed. They once again made us feel welcome and the food and different free starter was delicious....

I can definitely recommend this place! The service was great and we felt well taken care of. The food was so tasty and had the hearty feeling of something home cooked :) The menu doesn’t seem to be a set one and varies from day to day. We had the frog legs, beef skewer, fish & shellfish casserole and tiramisu. Everything was just great, definitely not traditional Spanish but mouthwatering food :)
