Initial meet and greet including pick up/ drop off to and from our hotel to the site/centre was a benefit and helpful. No real introductions at the dive centre, rushed into getting started. Leon the instructor. His professionalism, skills, teaching style and attitude was fantastic. However, there were issues with the equipment that I feel may be considered safety critical, and may possibly be overlooked by someone new to diving. Day 1 - Whilst carrying out checks on the regulator I noticed that the purge button was defective, sticking and not operating correctly. When I highlighted the issue I was told that this would be rectified. During the pool dives it became apparent that there was also an issue with the cylinder valve as it was leaking air. I was told that for the purpose of the pool dives it would be ok to use but would be replaced once the day had ended. Day 2 - The day started well and the dives were completed in Las Eras. The sea was rough and there was a swell. This, I believe could have been quite intimidating to new divers. There was no suitable place to use any toilet/ changing facilities. There was still an issue with the purge button. Day 3 - When I started to carry out my equipment checks there was an issue where both regulators were leaking air. There was also an issue with the cylinder valve where it was defective and freely spinning. When I highlighted the issues to the lead instructor it was accepted that there was an issue with the regulator set, however I was told in a patronising manner that I had damaged the cylinder valve, had been heavy handed with their equipment and that diving equipment is "delicate". I explained and demonstrated how I had operated the set and had not been heavy handed. I am aware of how to use very similar equipment within my role as a Firefighter and explained that it should be deemed defective and not fit for use. I was then told not to worry as I wouldn't be charged for it. As if to imply that there was no responsibility being accepted for their faulty equipment. As the cylinders didn't seem to carry a number to identify them, I am unable to determine if it was the same as day 1 or just another defective cylinder. From this point on I felt the whole mood changed. I was a customer being blamed for their own faulty equipment In front of other customers at their centre. Very unprofessional. The dive site (Mar Azul) was poor, again with no changing/toilet facilities, littered, covered with human faeces and very busy. Unfortunately it had now got to the point where my friend (who also experienced issues) and I were just glad for the course to be at an end with Paradise. Day 4 - Both feeling deflated, we decided to take our newly gained skills to another company operating in the region for a day of diving. We were able to see just how it could have been for us having no issues with well maintained equipment, friendly uplifting atmosphere at a great site (Punta de Abades) where there were coffee shops/cafes, toilet/changing facilities and...
Read moreMe and my wife had our first ever diving experience with Nikki, Shauna and Dan.
Upon arrival Nikki warmheartedly greeted us and let us know right away she was super excited about welcoming us to the sport. She said teaching new people to dive is her favorite thing to do!
We were offered a drink and got to fill in the paper work in the warm sunlight. Then we were shown a friendly, practical and concise (but not too concise) presentation on the things we needed to know before heading into the water. There was a little private quiz at the end to test how well we had learned from the presentation (and to make sure we didn't miss any of the crucial information).
We then went into the pool with the full equipment on where we got to practice the essentials that we had just learned. We first got an instruction above the water about the skill. Then we looked under water as the instructor performed it. And then we tried on by one with 2 instructors checking us from both sides to make sure nothing would go wrong.
Even in this time we had a blast. We smiled and laughed a lot, and the instructors were clear, excited and had then best of attitudes. At this point they were also taking photos of us already to share with us after we were done. .then we took a drive and went to the ocean. The instructors knew exactly where to go to have the best chance of seeing the sea life. We stopped to boat a bit off coast and after a bit more guidance, instructions and safety checks, we plunged in. When we came to the bottom (12m deep) two huge sting ray emmediately approached us. We were briefed to stay calm around the animals and let them do their thing. It was a truly astonishing experience. One of the sting ray can so close to me, I could of nerely leaned in and given it a kiss.
The instructors kept checking our equipment under water, and guided us to the best places to see more of the sea floor wild life. I felt completely safe under their competent and experienced supervisory skills. When we came up 38 minutes later, we shared our experiences verbally and had some nice laughs.
For our first experience diving we couldn't have picked a better place than paradise diving. The instructions were quality and easy to follow. The pacing was perfect, and they made sure we understood them. The joy that the instructors had and the jokes we shared only topped of our experience.
If only I could give more...
Read moreWonderful experience! Leon and Flo were the best, they showed knowledge and patience, letting us retry exercises until we felt comfortable. It's been very fun to share the 3 days together. The locations we dived in were properly though according to the level of experience and yet beautiful. â My boyfriend and I did our Open Water PADI certification and we can only say great things about our experience. In a nutshell, our instructors Leon and Flo were amazing and the course was perfectly organised. Before arriving we did online the training and exam so we came prepared with basic knowledge. The first day on site, we had the confined water exercises. Since we had 2 instructors, we had personalised feedback and could go through all the exercises successfully and timely. The second day we had our first open water dive with Leon. As we practiced in the confined water we did as well the open water skills in Abades. While learning we had still the space to enjoy the experience (among others, we saw two turtles and a choco - my highlight). The third and last day, we dived in Marazul with Leon and it was such an amazing landscape to dive in. On the first dive of the day, we finalised all exercises so that for the last one, we were prepared and could just enjoy the dive (we saw a ray and lots of funny trumpet fishes!)
Paradise divers is a great place. Friendly, knowledgeable and very welcoming. We look forward to come back, and we highly recommend this to other divers.
Thanks a lot! All the...
