We have been coming to Menorca for 20+ years but specifically to Calen Porter for 15 years. We have always gone to Samoa ever since it opened and enjoyed lovely meals and fantastic service until are recent experience.
Prior to our negative experience, we queued up, waiting to get seated whilst a spanish family decided to push infront claming they had reserved a table when they didn’t because the waiter prioritised them before us when we queued up- there were no reserved tables with signs!
The main reason for this review is due to the very poor service me and my family experienced due to rude staff. A waiter walked into our table as the tables were too close to one another- he apologised but walked off when the wine spilt over myself and all over the table. We had to clear the mess ourselves whilst the waiter walked off and served someone else. He didn’t offer us another drink- so I had to ask for one myself, and he brought me an empty glass!! Our meal order was then mixed up and the waiter was very rude throughout the whole night and said “what do you want” rudely and abruptly. After we ordered our meals, we then received the wrong meal- we said it was the wrong meal, and the waiter was still very rude and blamed it on the kitchen when we know it was his mistake because we asked him at the beginning when my wife decided to change her meal- but we made this clear and he said he “supposedly changed it.” .
At this point we were disgusted and ready to walk out but we decided to stay and my wife went and tried to speak to a manager but was passed onto the one that was rude to us when ordering! That waiter that was rude then tried blaming the other waiter that walked into our table and spilt the wine- but they were both in the wrong!!.
After this the waiter that was rude to us completely changed him tune and was as nice as anything and was trying to offer us a free piece of cheesecake (after a three course meal!). He was as chatty as anything when we were ordering our desserts which is the kind of service you would expect from the start!. He then at the end tried to offer us free shots of the liqueurs! (Which you get for free anyway at the end of the meal!).
When it came to getting the bill, he didn’t take anything off but said he was taking the price off the drinks off, however this is included in the price of the set menu we had previously ordered! We felt we shouldn’t be paying the full price and he decided to get another manager we have known from previous years and he was very nice and understanding and took off one set menu order (as there was five off us). During the rest of our 2 week+ holiday we decided to not visit again, which was highly disappointing as we have always loved Samoa until now.
Overall, we would visit again, but we would refuse to be served by the waiters that...
Read moreAwful awful experience! After looking at the menu on the wall I decided to dine here, little did I know how rude the staff were, especially the manager. I was on my own so asked for a single table (the restaurant was fairly empty). The manager rudely huffed, and took me to a table for two, rudely snatched the other plate and grumbled. He asked if I wanted a drink and I asked for a large coke with no ice, he brought my drink over about a third of the way full and slammed it on the table making the almost empty glass even more empty. He brought my menu to my table and without a chance to have a proper look (other than the wall outside) he demanded my order and said that I needed to hurry, I told him I will be a couple minutes and that I hadn’t decided as of yet. He threw his arms in the air, walked away to his staff and rudely pointed over at me and made it obvious he was talking about myself. I felt very out of place and awkward. He returned about 30 seconds later and I gave him my order (spaghetti bolognese to start and a medium-rare t-bone steak for mains). He brought out my starter which was over cooked and piping hot. He walked past my table about 4/5 times in about 2 minutes and every time huffed and pointed at my food, he then asked if I was finished yet (still with knife and fork in my hand), I told him I was not. When I was finished he took my plate away and shook his head at me very angrily. He brought the wrong meal out for my main course, I told him it was the incorrect meal and he told me I had requested a meal change to one of his staff ( which I hadn’t ). He then brought my (almost) correct meal (I asked for no sauce with the t-bone but it has pepper sauce on, I scraped it off and got on with it). He said do you what your free half bottle of wine or not? I said no thank you (I am underage, only 15), he said I will have to charge you extra for your coke then, I said no I will pay normal price for my coke, he said no you won’t and walked off. I cut into the steak the size of a digestive biscuit to find it was cooked well done (I asked for medium rare). I didn’t complain and just ate it, my chips were burnt to a point they crumbled when bitten into so I ate bone of them. The manager kept returning to my table asking if I was finished yet and I told him I would tell him when I was finished. He told me I needed to hurry up and leave. I gave up with my food as I just wanted to leave. I payed the bill and waited for my change (there was no way I was leaving a tip) about five minutes after I payed he come over to my table and pointed at the exit and said you’ve payed the bill now goodbye. I said I’m waiting for my change and he said no change sorry, I said no I want my change and he replied with sorry you have to leave tip here GOODBYE! I calmly exited holding in my...
Read moreMy family and I tend to visit Samoa on Monday nights, owing to the popular Motown tribute act that performs across the street at Sa Paissa. Perfect foil for an evening of dancing and drinks. The menu del dia (menu of the day) represents pretty good value for money and there is something on their for most tastes. The team run a smooth operation, and the restaurant never seems to be anything less than busy. That being said, the team also work at pace, so you never usually have to wait too long for dinner. I'd recommend gathering your whole party before going in to the restaurant to be seated, as in high season there can be small queues to get in, and it can be a little awkward taking up a space while you wait for the rest of the crew to join you. Once you are seated, you'll be asked for your drinks order, and presented with the main menu and the menu of the day. Followed by a little plate of tapas (usually patatas bravas or croquettes), then once your order is placed, bread basket and some meat paste along with the drinks. Once the puddings are all done, a small shot of Irish cream or herbas liquor to put the delicate finishing touch on top of what should be a fantastic meal. Pro tip- if you order the garlic prawns, give it a minute or two for the oil to cool before you eat or risk a...
