A rather disappointing meal. The positives are that the food is innovative and well executed. They are doing some interesting things with local ingredients and there were a couple of stand-out dishes including the mares milk, sea cucumber, and salt baked skate wing which were fantastic. On the negative side the desserts were bland and forgettable. There were a lot of other negatives too, mainly to do with price and experience. We regularly eat at Michelin starred restaurants and for me a large part of the enjoyment of a high-end meal comes from the service and context in which it is served. We both felt that this was not good value for money especially considering that we found several other restaurants on the island with excellent tasting menus for a very reasonable €50-90 which were considerably more enjoyable and less pretentious, and with better food too. The atmosphere at MaDeCa is non-existent. You feel like you are in a hotel lobby with its bright light, awful outdated artwork and decor. The spaced out tables and lack of music made it feel very cold and empty, and while that is likely a COVID related precaution, it also detracted from the ambience. The servers were trying to be friendly but came across as overfamiliar/intrusive, they were also trying hard to be formal but making a lot of basic errors such as serving my husband before me. I would absolutely not care about this if it was an average restaurant, but when you are paying over €400 for a meal for 2 the expectations are of course a lot higher. It’s a shame because the food overall is quite good, but I...
Read moreWe had great expectations about this restaurant as it was supposed to be one of the best in Mallorca. Nevertheless, our experience was far from great.
Getting a table at Maca De Castro can be a bit challenging in August, as it seems they have great demand, but our hotel managed to do it. The awful experience started off right at the door, when we were “welcomed” by the unfriendly sommelier. He definitely does not have the qualifications or the politeness to work in this environment. The restaurant has a modern atmosphere, few tables and quiet environment. We sat. the sommelier came and in a very unpleasant way tried to explain what we were about to experience. Somehow, I believe he must hate his job so much given the way he behaved with us and the other tables. We were unable to get his message about Maca’s concept. We asked about wines a couple of times and he basically brought us something without even explaining about. Some of the creations were delicious and really well thought, but dishes were coming one after the other without having the proper time to experience it. When we left we kindly said thank you and the sommelier again completely ignored us. Definitely not recommending to anyone that I know. The worse experience. Not...
Read moreBy far some of the best food we've had on the island. There were some really brilliant dishes; the langostine with squash blossoms, the lobster with tarragon sauce, the starter which was a riff on the traditional dish 'arroz brut'. Quality of the ingredients were top shelf and expertly prepared. If I have to nitpick I would say that I would like a little softer and more romantic lighting, and that the desserts were just a little overly-conceptual and I would have liked something a bit more familiar, after all there are a lot of great traditions on the island for desserts such as almond cake, citrus, etc and I know they could do excellent interpretations of these, but this is a minor quibble. Overall the quality of the dishes is at a very high level, and for wine lovers it is by far the best cellar on the island and there are some bargains if you know what to look for. The pricing may seem high for a Spanish restaurant, but we have eaten at Michelin star restaurants all over the world and I find the pricing here to be extremely fair. A meal of this caliber in the US would go for double the...
