Being a whiskey drinker in Spain is tough—but we found our oasis in Alicante when we stumbled upon The Whisper. As an American, I couldn’t help but smile at the “Make Cocktails Great Again” sign. Honestly, this is the only thing we should be trying to make great again. When I complimented the staff on the cleverness of the sign, they mentioned that some people mistakenly think it’s political. It’s not. So to anyone reading this: please stop projecting and turning everything into American politics.

Now, onto the drinks. We started with a couple of cocktails from the menu—the Espresso Diplomático and a classic Manhattan. Then I noticed their impressive whiskey selection and asked our bartender, Ivan, if he’d be up for crafting a cocktail based on my flavor preferences. He was more than happy to oblige, and each drink he made was better than the last.

We also got to know Jose, who’s incredibly knowledgeable about whiskey. We geeked out over everything from Buffalo Trace to the Scotches lining the shelf. It was the kind of experience whiskey lovers dream of.

If you’re curious about whiskey, this is the spot. Start with a cocktail, then ask for recommendations—and don’t be shy about asking questions. The team will guide you through the proper way to enjoy whiskey neat, and you might just discover a new favorite.

Our only regret? Not finding The Whisper sooner. We discovered it just two days before we had to leave—but we made sure to visit both nights before...

Having visited a multitude of bars around the world (US - Vegas, NYC, FL, Chicago, San Fran, Worldwide - UK, Paris, Italy, Barcelona, Madrid), this is, in my opinion, is one of the best cocktail bars that I’ve visited. They have incredible cocktails of the month and an amazing cocktail menu. The ambience is that of a speakeasy (thus, the name ‘Whisper Cocktail Company’) with great furniture and standards music befitting the era. I can highly recommend the Piña colada, any of the sours cocktails, Órale Rabat, and many, many others. I, rarely, order sweet drinks at bars due to the fear of them being sugar bombs, but Whisper creates all of their cocktails with natural and fresh ingredients. The result allows you to try their incredible interpretations of the aforementioned Piña Coladas, Zombies, Mai Tai’s, others without fear of being overwhelmed by sweetness and sugar. We visited Gatsby on Monday and Thursday last week - what a wonderful place! My wife had been before with her family and told me we had to go. I couldn’t argue.

The bar is decorated very nicely with great attention to detail. A comfortable environment to enjoy a well made drink.

The bar staff were simply amazing and very knowledgeable indeed. We enjoyed all of the drinks we had. We enjoyed the conversation too over a nice quiet drink.

The menu was very good indeed, lots of classics and some unique twists on these too. The original creations we tried were also very good. My wife’s favourite was ‘La Llorona’, a smoky, fruity and spicy delight. I opted for some classics to start and then tried a special negroni amongst others.
