Taberna del Xef — Restaurant in Altea

We've visited the restaurant the evening before our return from Altea. Beautiful terrace with loads of shade sheltered me, wife and daughter. We ordered croquettes and out they came with taste and crunchiness that surprised us. Especially the ones with mushrooms were just melting on your tongue. Our daughter had chips ( french fries really ) but she ate them all not leaving anything - that's a first. I ordered T-bone steak and when it came out I knew it'd be a test because of how big it was. I barely ate it but couldn't leave any - it was too perfect! My wife ordered a pulled chicken dish and we were all amazed because taste was fantastic and I only had a bite. We had cheese cake and ice cream for dessert to commemorate end of our holiday. Our waiter was very attentive , my drink finished which I was oblivious of and z few moments later a new one popped on our table ! Overall its a lot of bang for the money and food is fresh...

I wanted to write a glowing review for this place. The terrace is lovely, the food was very good and the the price reasonable. However when the bill came they had added a bottle of wine we didn't order. When I pointed it out they removed it. Honest mistake? Maybe but after I paid by card the waiter returned to say the payment hadn't gone through. He was behaving strangely, wouldn't look me in the eye, but I paid again. I then received notification from my bank that both payments had gone through. When I returned to the restaurant they quickly refunded the money without properly checking as if they were expecting it and were behaving very strangely. Creative and tasty tapas, lovely outdoor spot, and amazing service. Such a happy accidental find!

We ordered a variety of tapas. The basic croquetas and pan, tomate, alioli were great. The pulpo and pumpkin tapa was out of this world. The beef cheek ravioli was also tasty and something I've not had before.

The bartender helped us with our drinks which are not in the menu. We asked for radler, which they don't have, but the bartender made it for us. Also ordered a mocktail, which was not in the menu, and he was so helpful. They also don't have iced coffee to-go, but he used other plastic cup for us.
