Bit of a shambles really, from start to finish. Noted it stated that it was established in 2022 on the menu - assuming weâre in the early stages with plenty of room for improvement.
Sat down on the lovely sofas overlooking the sea, started to look over the food and drinks menu which included a range of appealing cocktails and food items.
5-10 minutes later, no one had attended to us (not busy - 80/90% of covers were available) - I popped to the bar, and asked should I order there or wait for table service. The gentleman politely asked if I could wait at the table and will be right over, which was perfectly reasonable. Assumed that we may had been missed initially, but now theyâd be straight over. We waited another 5-10 minutes, then had to attempt to make eye contact again (as you do) until finally, a lady came over to take our order. Needless to say, I wouldnât have gone to the effort of providing this context if it wasnât for what followed.
I asked for the spicy chicken burger to which she replied and said that she wasnât sure if they can do it (but wasnât confident). I said âthatâs fine, well Iâll have the caprese salad then but if you wouldnât mind checking if they could do the burger that would be amazingâ - she had no problem, took my wifeâs order and went off to the bar. Within 10 seconds, the lady came back to tell me that they couldnât do the burgers and they had no cheese for the salad I wanted so couldnât do this either. I laughed it off, and asked what she would recommend instead. She said that the club sandwiches were âreally goodâ - I asked for the classic one and she wondered if Iâd like to add bacon to it. I told her that it comes with bacon, she told me that it doesnât. I showed her the menu, and she said âoh.â We moved on, and off she went again.
After a little while (felt a long time but think we were becoming more disgruntled at this point) the cocktails arrived with a bowl of sweets (which was a nice touch) - nothing wrong with the cocktails (or the sweets!)
While waiting for the drinks I popped to the toilet, the lady who originally served us saw me coming and cut across me which was a bit odd. Iâm not sure if it was deliberate but with a hospitality background myself itâs common sense to give way to the guests. (Again, I wouldnât be writing this part if it wasnât for the experience as a whole - certainly, not trying to be petty but important to be honest here.)
Then, the food arrived - nothing wrong with my wifeâs meal (she just had a a couple of snacks - mozzarella sticks and fries - no complaints with her food.) Nonethless, my club sandwich was a DISASTER (image attached), in fact I canât tell you how it tasted because all I could taste was the copious amounts of mayonnaise which it had been dowsed in. I love mayonnaise by the way! But my word, even if Iâd had 6 pints on a Friday night and had a go at that in my kitchen before bed, Iâd have struggled through it. Thereâs no need to put that much mayonnaise in a sandwich. My opinion, I guess, but Iâd be surprised if anyone would find that enjoyable. To make matters worse we wasnât given any serviettes or cutlery. Regardless if itâs finger food, itâs common courtesy to provide cutlery just in case, and if I am expected to eat this Mayo-mess with my hands then give me a couple of tissues to dry myself off afterwards. Crikey.
It was just a very unpolished and generally unpleasant experience which is a shame. Looking at the better reviews on here maybe this was uncharacteristic but meant for a disappointing visit on...
Read moreHuge potential - Just missing a "buzz".
Zetto is the first bar on the Altea promenade when approached from the North. It has a cool demeanour, lovely décor and a fantastic bar.
The cocktails are delicious and having gone through a number of them, I've never been disappointed (can't speak for the food). Fair (if not typical) pricing. Each table gets a bowl of sweets, a touch we love!
Service is reasonable - Not quite hot on you when you enter but still satisfactory.
The one thing that stands out however (and the reason to write this review) is that throughout your visit, you can't help but feel there's a buzz that's missing.
With its beautiful view, comfortable seating, great position on the promenade and delicious cocktails, it has the potential to be somewhere you stay for several rounds. However, the missing ingredient seems to warrant one round only and then a further promenade ramble.
Someone more in tune with hospitality could pinpoint it in a heartbeat, but I really hope the next time I visit Altea the atmosphere is fixed and we can traverse the whole...
Read moreGreat location on the beautiful Altea promenade, just yards from the beach line. Only 1 member of staff present when every table taken on a festival weekend! She was extremely busy, but charming, nonetheless. Prices are expensive. I mean really expensive for this promenade. Cafe con leche x4 plus slice of dessert x4 = âŹ37!! Much better desserts available and for half the price along this stretch. In fact Cafe Mood next door (which is closed on Mondays) have a much better selection of far superior home-made desserts and really fabulous coffee for around half the price! Could the prices have been increased for the Moors & Christians festival weekend? Either way, they could probably afford to lower them in alignment with the other quality offerings along...
