We spent two days in the Ribera del Duero en route back from Portugal to Santander. We chose the Hotel Aranda for location and because it looked like the sort of solid, traditional hotel I'd stayed in many times as a child travelling through Spain with my parents. In that respect I wasn't wrong, it's got an immediately authentic, solidly Castillian feel. Rooms are spacious and very clean, well appointed, comfortable bed. There's a very nice bar, popular with local older clients who meet to chat and play cards. All very civilised. What lets really this place down is the utterly terrible breakfast, one of the worst I've experienced anywhere. Essentially a load of breakfast items are fairly unceremoniously dumped on a long table from which you help yourself. There is barely anything you'd recognise as fresh, it's nearly all from packets, and none of it especially stellar in quality. A heap of scrambled egg lies cooling and congealing in a large serving pan. The yoghurts aren't refrigerated. For most of the elements of the breakfast, when it's gone it's gone unless a member of staff wanders by and notices it needs replenishing. It really was awful. Since things don't open early in Spain there's not necessarily a ready alternative locally, and it is included, but by the time lunchtime comes you'll be ready for some decent food. Otherwise, a decent choice in Aranda but that breakfast really was unforgivably bad hence only giving three stars, otherwise might...

Read moreWe stayed here as a port of call on the long car journey from Santander to Playa Paraiso. I am pleased we did.||||We were greeted warmly by the receptionist and arrangements for our stay were outlined. Fortunately we had booked parking and were pleased that the car could be garaged in a private, locked underground car park a short walk from the hotel.||||Our room was clean and tidy with the usual facilities. ||||The hotel did allow our dog to remain with us but obviously we had to eat our breakfasts at separate times rather than leave her in the room out of courtesy to other guests. The breakfast itself was very pleasant with a range of foods (except of course sausage, egg and bacon).||||Checking out was simple but it is worth remembering that if you are using the garage, you have to return the remote control to the recption area as nobody walks with you to the garage.||||All in all, a very pleasant stay and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone staying near or...
