Barcelona is changing, all the time. There's always a new construction site, shops close and open every day, same thing for restaurants and bars... and what they sell evolves too. In Eixample, all the bars used to be the same traditional bars. Nowadays, there's more diversity and what used to be old-fashioned is now modern: bars turn into cocktail places, dirty restaurants turn into brunch spots, etc. There's a place I walked by so many times on my way to the hospital to give blood. From the outside, it doesn't seem like a fancy spot and I guess it's one of these places that used to be a "normal" bar. But for some reason, it caught my eye and I looked it up. It's a brunch spot and its ratings are excellent 🤩. It's called Café Pendiente. I finally booked a table for brunch (yes, you can book there 👏) a couple of weeks ago. The place was nice, even though the music was too loud to have a smooth conversation. I ordered a "Banoffee French toast" while my son ordered a (not French) toast with banana, peanut butter, salted caramel and almond, and my wife had a salmon and avocado toast of which I only tried the side (fries, good). My son's toast was delish... and I wish I had ordered the same thing cause my French toast was kind of dull and very small, especially considering that it was one of the most expensive items on the menu. 😔 I also ordered a mango, pineapple and passion fruit smoothie which tasted like... orange juice (they use it as the base), nothing else. A pity. 👎 Then I ordered an açaí bowl: not great. Not enough açaí and, most of all, chocolate nibs on the top that took over the whole bowl. It was like eating chocolate and that's not the point. 👎 I didn't try the rest of the items on the table but nobody seemed really enthousiast. The service was correct and we paid €20+ each, which is standar but that I still find expensive for what we had.

Read moreI am so sad - I’d looked at all the reviews of this place and got excited to come here unfortunately it was a huge disappointment. Don’t come here if you like hot food or have food allergies.
They do not take food allergies seriously. I didn’t eat 1 of the 2 things I ordered because there were bananas in it. It didn’t say bananas on the menu so I didn’t know. The meal I ordered came with coffee or tea…I can’t drink caffeine and had to explain that to them several times (in Spanish and English)…so we finally concluded on juice instead. When my bill came there was an extra charge for juice that hadn’t been previously shared with me.
The majority of menu items featured on their Instagram are only available at certain times so most of what I planned to order wasn’t available to order at brunch.
The food is cold…a cold eggs benedict is just plain gross. The potatoes on the side were hot but the bread, eggs, sauce and bacon on the eggs benedict were all cold….not even lukewarm. They re-made it and the toast and sauce were still cold…really weird that the eggs and bacon were then warm but sauce and toast were cold. At that point I ate it because I was hungry and had zero faith they could get the full meal hot at...
Read moreHonestly the biggest disappointment of my 4 days in Barcelona.
Amazing reviews on Google yet that simply wasn't our experience. We ordered the full brunch menu and when the Eggs Benedict arrived basically everything was cold. Potatoes were cold with no salt, eggs had been smothered with so much near ice cold hollandaise sauce they were stone cold. Bacon was a pathetically small amount and tasteless. Very poor.
We ordered pancakes for the sweet course and were told the we couldn't change honey for syrup on the pancakes. Why? When they arrived they didn't appear to have any honey on them either.
I can't vouch for other people but on a Saturday morning whilst eating brunch I don't want to listen to headache inducing ethic house so loud the waiters couldn't communicate with us. Music is fine but people want to talk whilst eating.
As I said a massive...
