We have sampled a fair bit of pinchos during our short stopover in Barcelona when stumbled upon a packed Casa Dorita one afternoon.

Surely, we have to try! We made a reservation for the first available dinner slot: 8 pm! By dinner, slow-cooked dishes like oxtail stew as well as chickpea and lobster stew, have sold out — probably to the lunch crowd hours earlier.

Well, well-cooked traditional Catalonian cuisine is absolutely divine. Casa Dorita is a beautiful but cozy family-owned Catalonian restaurant, — where no wait staff speak much English. With a deep respect for the love that goes into the pots, we opted for other stews and slow-cooked offerings — Iberian pork cheek (Carrillera Iberica €14.90) with black wine sauce and bean 🫘 stew (Pochas con fundament €11.20) — with a little help from Google translate. How could something seemingly simple as bean stew be one of the best stews I have ever had! What a burst of flavours! There isn’t a word to describe the complex layering of flavours: cannelloni beans with chorizo, black pudding (it seems), hints of peppers but whatever the combo — it would convert the most staunch carnivores! A spoonful in your mouth and everything slows down as its flavour unfolds in the mouth.

Though relatively small in portion, the pork cheek was soooo tender “one doesn’t need teeth” to savour it — in a black wine sauce that is reduced to perfection and simply out of this world! The Iberian pork potato croquettes turn to liquid gold in the mouth. As with all cuisines, it is those that take time that blow you away.

Wine serving were a tad small but, the amazing dinner...

Best Market restaurant in Barcelona!-

We live in Barcelona and consistently eat fresh and amazing food. But Casa Dorita is on another level! This cute little restaurant is about one block away from the Sant Antoni Market! Their produce and ingredients are so fresh it feels like you’re eating straight from the market!

As if the food alone wasn’t enough, the staff is just amazingggggg! Hernán is an absolutely dream! The entire staff is so attentive and friendly you feel like you’re home! They make some super special Aubergine chips! I highly suggest them!

If you’re looking for an authentic Spanish restaurant with amazing food and service, you must visit...

There are some places where you walk in and just know you are going to enjoy yourself. It has to do with the welcome and the feel of the place, decor, music, babble of contented patrons initially. Well guess what Casa Dorita hit our spot right away, and it got better. Friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff guided us gently through the food and wine all of which was carefully selected, local and regional. We relaxed, ate well, enjoyed ourselves and had some fun. Thank you guys! The photo is the staff, they are lovely but a...

Very cozy bar in the Sant Antoni area with a friendly server and a good vibe (inevitably a bit tourist-heavy due to the area). Excellent jamón ibérico that they cut to order, you can tell that it's really good quality. Didn't get to try any other dishes because the kitchen was closed at that time (but we appreciated that they were open between lunch and dinner, unlike many other bars). I gave it 4 stars instead of 4 because the wines by the glass tasted a bit oxidized, like they had been opened too long. Otherwise, I'd recommend it.
