LAMAI THAI TAPAS — Restaurant in Barcelona

The restaurant is located quite centric, around the neighbourhood of Barceloneta. The food was up to the expectations and real Thai food. The combination of the flavour didn’t disappoint and everything was fresh and authentic. Except for the Thai milk tea that came with a big block of ice that stayed until the end of the beverage. Another thing that might be interested for the customers to know is the reservation topic. The spot is pretty small and they have a lower floor for the clients. Nevertheless, it is another vibe together with the storages and feel’s uncared as the upper floor is the image of the restaurant. My own experience is that I had reservation for three persons (confirmed via phone), but got a bit unlucky because of the table. We weren’t sure if the staffs gave table to other clients, but we were in the -1 without anyone attending us for half an hour approximately. It's not an exaggeration to say that this restaurant is one of the best Thai dining experiences I've ever had! After spending a month and a half traveling around Europe, I was thrilled to discover Lamai Thai. The food is 100% authentic—I’ve been to Thailand five times, so I know what good Thai food should taste like. Every dish we tried was absolutely excellent, especially the pad Thai, which was out of this world.

The grilled beef was also incredibly delicious: tender and full of flavor. We loved the minced beef stir-fry served with rice and a fried egg. The som tum was a fantastic combination of spicy, sweet, and crunchy flavors.

Moreover, the staff were friendly and accommodating. We had some enjoyable conversations about their restaurant and places to visit in Barcelona.

Disappointing Experience Despite Nice Ambiance

At first glance, the restaurant looked promising, stylish decor and an inviting entrance. Unfortunately, things took a sharp downturn after we were seated.

We were led downstairs to a neglected part of the restaurant, which was clearly under-attended and lacking in atmosphere. The place was swarming with flies, making it hard to feel comfortable, let alone enjoy a meal.

Service was painfully slow, likely due to understaffing. It took ages to get our food, and they completely forgot my drink order. When the food finally arrived, it was mediocre at best. For the kind of prices they charge, you'd expect much better quality and attention to detail.

Overall, while the food wasn’t outright bad, the poor service, unhygienic conditions, and lack of basic customer care made this a very disappointing dining experience. I wouldn't return or...
