I have been here many times and always had a wonderful experience however.. The one time I take some friends that have come from Sweden to visit we have a very bad experience.
I ordered a small beer, which is normally very good. The drink promptly came over however a few sips into it I noticed it tasted stale. Please note I've worked in tens of bars and clubs over the years and I know my beers. I've drank this exact type many many times also. I told the waitress the beer was stale and she acted very defensive and rudely, telling us the other customers were fine with it and asking what the problem is. The male worker then comes over to change it added a comment that I have drank half already (bare in mind is was a small glass). I was incredibly insulted at his suggestion that I may be doing this for a free half a small beer and told him what I thought of his comment.
Here's the worst bit. I ordered a dish I've had many times before, normally lightly spicy plate. However it was obvious that the waiting staff disliked my attitude and made sure I had the hottest spices they had, normally used in the diabolo dish, for my order. I was very unwell for the following 24 hours.
It seems that their current staff are irresponsible and immature and will run a heavy risk of ruining your experience. I really suggest that you try other places. It's clear that MEXCLA has...
Read moreWhat an absolute gem. As a California boy I thought we had a monopoly on all forms of tacos, but I stand corrected.
We started with the guac, which was bursting with fresh flavor and served with both plantain and tortilla chips. We had a mix of tacos for dinner: lobster, fish and cochinita pibil (roasted suckling pig). Each was served with different sauces and condiments, and they all complemented the tacos perfectly. The pibil was my wife's favorite, but I slightly favored the lobster. All three were amazing, though, so it's like choosing a favorite between your three perfect children.
Drinks were also spot on. Michelada reminded me of home and my wife's fresh shaken tamarind water took her back to her childhood. I ordered a pasilla chile and tamarind mezcalrita to go with the tacos, and it felt like a religious experience.
For less than 30EUR a person including drinks, I felt like we were stealing from them. You shouldn't get gorgeously plated, delicious and creative food like this for such a bargain. Service is friendly and accommodating on top of everything. Favorite all around meal so far in Barcelona. We will be back...
Read moreIn America, I eat at local Mexican restaurants 2-3 times a week. I was curious what a Spanish take on Mexican cuisine would be. This was a great surprise. The food is served with an upscale presentation and creative combinations of ingredients. I went 3 times in 4 days and ordered Chimichangas, crujientes, duck tacos, fajitas pollos, and sampled their enchiladas verdes y picante. Every single dish was beautifully served, excellently cooked, and absolutely delicious
The staff remembered us from our trip and although we only spoke broken Spanish, we're very friendly, accommodating, and genuinely seemed to appreciate our business.
I want to try to recreate some of these recipies when I go home, and would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great Spanish-Mexican fusion in Barcelona.
If you have a few extra Euros to spare, get a margarita. They're...
