Revised my review, after understanding how the pilsner Urquell is supposed to be served. Still keeping the rating average because of the way the barman treated us.
Mixed feelings about this bar.
The first time I went there, the lady at the bar was friendly and gave me a good beer with a smile. The music was really nice and I tried the crumbed mushrooms, which were good too. I wanted to go again.
I returned a week or two later with someone and found no music. There was a bearded man working at the bar this time and his expression was that of someone who just stepped on his own foot. He filled my beer at least 2cm below the marked volume line on the glass and we in a joking way tried to tell him to top it up, as we are paying for it. At the time I did not know about the different ways of serving it and profess my ignorance. He immediately became rude and aggressive, insulting us in Spanish and saying that this is not England (we aren't British or from anywhere near there, just speak English well). Out of awkwardness we had a nervous laugh and he doubled down saying that it is not a joke, with an expression on his face like we just insulted him or something.
At this point we really wanted to leave, so had our mushrooms and drink as fast as we could to get out fo there.
It seems to be a common complaint in other reviews that the man is very unpleasant and treat customers badly.
It really is a pity because the place is situated in a nice area and we wanted it to become our...
Read moreGreat selection of Czech's beers. Some were on the "warm" side though. Most of the food is fried, done in reused oil. Inside is super hot, outside its hard to get a table and once you are inside they wont let you move to an outside table, just favor new comers. Service was slow, one person only for the whole bar, serving and cooking, no surprise she was in a bad mood. I would only go back for the beer, as it nos easy to find it Barcelona bars, that being said, I rather walk a bit more and go...
Read moreCame here based on the reviews. Bartender was standing outside smoking when I walked to the bar. He came to serve me looking fed. When I asked politely (in Spanish) if he spoke English, he gave me a disgusted look and said ânoâ. That was fine - I tried my best to ask him (in Spanish) what each beer on tap was like: he gave me the most dismissive response and attitude that I felt completely not welcome. Left immediately - thereâs enough friendly places in this city that you donât need to...
