SPICY - Taberna Oriental — Restaurant in Barcelona

I wasn’t going to write a review but sometimes when I think about our experience here it still kind of disappoints me. Me and two other girl friends went a year ago and we were having a really lovely time, the food was really good honestly, and the prices were great as well. The problem was the service at the end, they gave us a bill for 111€ if I am not mistaken and we split into three and paid it (not even exact, I’m sure we paid a euro or two more) but as we were leaving the waitress calls us from behind the counter. Confused we went to her and she says we didn’t pay everything. And I say yes we did and she gives us a mean look and shows us her screen which was over 120€. I say that’s not true, you’re showing us a different receipt and I look back at our table to bring the actual receipt and it was cleaned up, nothing was on our table. Now she is looking at me very rude and I start doubting myself but my friend confirms to me that she saw a different bill as well. I say okay I will pay it but just then the waiter who was waiting on us comes to our table and asks what is wrong and he sees that he accidentally put someone else’s cocktail on our tab. Their first response after finding their mistake was “there’s no need to be dramatic” instead of an immediate apology. I think they did apologize after that I am not sure but I still hear him say “there’s no need to be dramatic” over such a strong accusation. I really would’ve loved to go back if all that didn’t happen but it’s a year later and I feel super...

Were you born in the right place ❓ Sometimes I think I was not. 😅 I’m French 🇫🇷 and I don’t like cheese 🧀... 😓 but I love Asian food which does not use much dairy. In fact, studies show most Asians (especially East-Asians) are lactose intolerant. I’m not lactose intolerant... but still, I love almost all Asian food... and very few French specialties. 😅 Asia is huge and it’s sometimes hard for me to choose which kind of Asian restaurant to visit... So a good option is a Pan-Asian restaurant, like Spicy in Eixample, BCN. They offer specialties from all over Asia with a hint of fusion. Their baos are so tender! And I love their version of xiu mai. 😋 But what really differentiates them from other Pan-Asian places are the vibe of the venue (which looks more like a nightclub than a restaurant) and their huge cocktail and Asian drinks menu. So it’s a great spot for some afterwork drinks or late night cocktails and Asian tapas. And they also have a semi-private area for big parties. My favorite part of the restaurant (check the last pic 🤩). The staff is laid-back but attentive and nice: perfect for the place. This is not a cheap place for this type of food: count at least €25-30 for a good meal, not including desserts and drinks but the vibe is really unique for an Asian restaurant in BCN. Oh! Spicy, can you share your playlist with me? It sounded like it was made for me! 🤩

Edito: en respuesta a su comentario, la reseña la dejo casi 2 años después porque estaba bajo revisión de Google (imagino que ustedes apelaron o denunciaron porque no les gustó lo que tenía que decir). Si no nos fuimos es porque estabamos celebrando un cumpleaños con personas que habían venido desde lejos a visitarnos, sino desde luego nos hubiéramos ido a cenar a otro sitio. Pero teniendo reserva a las 22h de la noche 8 persona obviamente no nos quedaba opción. Imagino que se acuerdan de nosotros porque nos tuvieron que devolver el dinero. Precisamente no fui yo quien llevaba la voz cantante al reclamar en el restaurante, me hace gracia que digan que de acuerdan de mí cuando apenas hice acto de presencia. Lo que no me gustó es como trataron a mis amigos y como nos quisieron vacilar. …………….…………… TE ESTAFAN PONIENDO PRECIOS DIFERENTES EN LA CARTA VS ONLINE Fuimos a celebrar un cumpleaños, y lo primero que nos hace saltar las alarmas es lo insistentes que son en que lleguemos puntuales al turno (eso de tener X tiempo para comer, ya es raro). Llegamos a la hora (22h) y de malas maneras nos dicen que esperemos 5 minutos (tienen que echar a la gente del turno anterior porque no se han ido aún), y que no esperemos ''ahí en medio''. Nos sientan a las 22h15 en la mesa al lado de la puerta, muertos de frío cada vez que se abre, y nos dicen que solo podemos usar media pesa. No se acerca nadie a tomar notas de la BEBIDAS hasta las 22h30. Dato importante, no nos traen la carta, lo tenemos que mirar todo desde el móvil. Pedimos entrantes, y cada uno un plato, el camarero (muy amable, eso sí) nos avisa que los platos llegarán en desorden, y así es, comimos todos en destiempo, algunos no cenamos hasta casi las 23h30 mientras que otros ya habían acabado de cenar hacía rato. Además te dejaban los platos en la mesa sin avisar ni decirte que era cada cosa. Los platos diminutos y carísimos, y se nota que es comida 'oriental' según españoles. Dejaban mucho que desear, el kimchi por ejemplo parecía de bote. Cuando vamos a pagar, ALUCINAMOS al ver el ticket porque los precios que nos cobran son diferentes a lo que hay en su web, y se excusan diciendo que la web móvil está desactualizada, que los precios se ven bien si lo miras desde un ordenador (tomo nota para llevarme el portátil la próxima vez que salgamos a cenar). Os recuerdo que no nos trajeron la carta si quiera. Después de pelear un rato, conseguimos que nos devuelvan el dinero de diferencia. Con deciros que íbamos con la intención de tomar algo para celebrar el cumpleaños, y nos fuimos corriendo porque no queríamos pasar 1 minuto más allí... De hecho acabamos en un Burger del hambre que teníamos. Lo único que se salva, el camarero que nos tomó nota y el encargado que nos solucionó el problema del ticket (porque el que nos recibió, fatal, y quien nos traía la comida igual).

Os dejo el ticket VS los precios que vimos en su WEB OFICIAL y un plato 'principal' valorado en casi 16€. Como podéis ver, nos cobraban 1-2€ más por plato de lo que...
