We went there for our end of year lunch with the kids (31/12/2022). The place is beautiful, spacious, comfortable and surprinsingly there was very few people. We had been wanting to go to a more gourmet vegan place and were very pleased with out first dishes, the Nigiris, they were awesome. I think the captured the full effect of sushi without the seafood elements and that was surprising. After that we were mostly dissapointed. We had the arroz chifa, which I guess was inspired from Arroz Chaufa como Peru's Chifas (Chifas are chinese restaurants in Peru but they are different to what you find elsewhere as they have taken flavors from the local cuisine). They were more similar to a vegeterian paella than anything else. I understand doing a fusion but this was a brutally failed attempt. Then we had some thai noodles, nothing to talk about, and some patatas bravas, also nothing especial. Which talks about the other failed attempt on the restaurant, it seems to present itself as a gourmet plant based restaurant and then you are offered seafood on a side letter or patatas bravas. My guess is a desperate attempt to increase sales to pay for that huge beautiful space, but that leaves a lack authenticity, like any other bar in a corner of Barcelona that serves whatever and ita value added is convenience but not experience. Finally desserts, blondies and lemon pie, the first one were good but for 7 euros would have expected something more, and the lemon pie didn't do it for me, nice but wouldn't order it again. So my take is that they should focus on what they do extremely well, and I mean out of this world good (level Maido), the nigiris and japanese style plant based food. If I ever go back I'll sample more on that side of the menu. However, ditch the poor fusion dishes or put the same focus on making them amazing, cause the spark is there. Wouldn't hurt to be more inline with the spirit of the place, whether it is a gourmet plant based experience or top notch japanese fusion food with care for all diets. I hope they thrive cause gourmet vegan food is rare and there is still a world out...
Read moreThe food was gorgeous. We ordered the tasting menu so we could try most dishes. Special mention to the braised fennel, absolutely spectacular. The sushi is also remarkable, tasty and original. A bit disappointed by the desserts; after that incredible meal I was expecting more than a fruit salad and a plain creme brulee, especially in the tasting menu where you're supposed to showcase your best. The restaurant itself is really pretty too.
Now for the bad news, I can't give it 5 stars because of a couple big hiccups. First, the service really lacks professionalism. Yes, he could recite the dishes and what they were, but kept us waiting a long time despite the restaurant being empty, as he was talking to a customer at the bar. Also, I found a piece of plastic in the fruit salad and pointed it out to the server. He just said "I'm sorry", but given that it could have been potentially dangerous, we would have expected a different and more apologetic attitude, perhaps a complimentary detail to make up for it. Something else that I'm disappointed with: I made my reservation through Google with The Fork, which worked great, but they reported to The Fork that I had NOT attended, which I did not understand as clearly we were the only reservation for 2pm on that day...
However, all in all the food was amazing so that's their saving grace. But I would recommend to better train their servers (and definitely look out for pieces of plastic in their fruit salads before they...
Read moreMy favourite vegan place in Barcelona. It has a bit of an upscale atmosphere, but the food is still nicely accessible and tastes amazing. The place has a clear focus on vegan sushi, so it felt a bit weird to have tex mex as a starter, but it tasted great, so I'm not gonna complain. The sushi and nigiri were great: best vegan sushi I've ever had. I love that there is an option to get a small selection of all nigiri; my only suggestion would be to do the same for the sushi. Right now, sushi seems best when you come as a group and just order a bunch of plates.
There is a tasting menu, but that is a bit more on the expensive side. We now paid about 80 EUR for a three course meal with drinks for two people. Getting the tasting menu would be 100 EUR per person without drinks, if memory serves. It didn't feel like the place where I would spend that kind of...
