Europa Cafè — Restaurant in Barcelona

Have been here 2 times now. First we went for lunch, having a bagel and a salad. Pastrami Bagel flavour combination was weird, the cream cheese gherkin doesn´t work, and the bagel was more like a focaccia/ciabatta. Perhaps their own version of a bagel, but still not good. We also had a greek salad, which looked very un-appetising, but tasted okay. For this visit the staff were indifferent. Second time was a couple months later for coffee, which were over 3 euros each (with oat milk). Coffee tasted very bad, tasting like is came from a machine that had not been cleaned for a long time. Looking over the bar, it was from a Nespresso machine? The oat milk was very thin as well. For over 3 euros for a coffee, it should be expected to use speciality coffee and a proper expresso machine, and specific barista style milk, not a Nespresso. For this visit the staff were good. Was not going to write a reveiw, but since the coffee was so bad and over-priced, felt the place needed a review. Europa Cafe has been around as long I can rememeber (have lived in Barcelona for +10 years) and always looked like a good place to go to, and you assume the food would be good. I used to like this cafe when moved to Bcn, visited it around 10 times, both alone and with couple, thinking it could become my favorite spot. But my pink glasses felt down. Let me describe the why.

There is a good chance that undereducated and rude personnel(2022) will spoil your experience at this place, which pretends to be somewhat of a high standard. The main manager doesn’t speak English, everything feels like a rush and a tourist trap. Expect also to be treated like a Dollar bill sometimes depending who serves you, if you look like your net value is higher (today), you’ll have the best table, if no, you will have that one next to the toilet. Girls generally seems are treated worse here than men in suits, or at least with double standards, supposedly because they think men order/pay more. True, but girls talk more and have more friends ;) Prices sometimes do not correspond to the menu, so watch out dear reader. 2 stars for nice location and good...

Very chic and well decorated place with great taste. We were here several times and each time it feels like you are outside of Spain for a moment. We tasted too few dishes from the menu to be able to rate the food, but so far we found it a little overpriced. I am taking 3 starts off because the stuff is terribly unprofessional and rude. It takes a lot of time and effort so that they give you any attention, they forget your orders, they are impolite and look like they really don't want to be there. Here is a picture of our table a second after we finally got another coffee that we had ordered, and the waitress left it on the table without any words and without picking up the finished dishes and cups.
