I've lived in Begur for six months. I'm a foodie from Vancouver. Considering where this is, this restaurant should be touristy-bland and poor value. The place across the street, packed with people, has a pizza and pasta menu written by AI - you know the ones.
That's what makes la Motxa such a wonderful surprise. The cooking is first class. There's a real chef here. Using good ingredients. With an understanding of balance, simplicity, and flavour. The right level of creativity. For example, a cod with green curry cream that had a wonderful nutty, vegetable rice alongside. The fish was perfectly cooked and I couldn't resist eating the seared skin.
We ordered three things to share and they were so shockingly good I had to have the smash burger for dessert. Wow. I'm in Begur for another six weeks and I'm going to eat at la Motxa at least four times. I wish we'd discovered it months...
Read moreNot a great deal of choice in Begur for Vegan / Vegetarians, I would recommend here though, if you are happy to share a variety of smaller plates (which we were!) All the food was delicious, the highlight (pictured) was the vegetable gyozas, you should definitely order one each of those. Full of flavour and a nice light crispy bottom. Bravas had a lovely sauce which was very light and a bit like mousse in texture (if any of you are vegan ask for sauce on the side). Aubergine with Miso was super soft, melt in the mouth, might have honey so check if you are stricter vegan. Pan con tomate comes in the DIY style, with tomatoes to rub on the bread, oil and salt. There was also a salad with avocado and mango which was very fresh tasting, and padron peppers. Staff are friendly, they also love dogs and you can dine on the terrace or inside with your...
Read moreThis restaurant is my favorite one in Begur. The dishes are not overly salted like many restaurants we experienced nearby. The dishes had flavor and didn’t use salt to artificially boost it. We had the watermelon and burata salad and the delicate basil was such a compliment to the dish. We had the squid/octopus fried rice and the various ingredients of peanuts and seaweed added to the variety of textures. My kids loved the piping hot croquetas and especially the dollop of crema right on top. The tiny purple clams “tellines” were so much better than at other restaurants because of the delicious garlic butter sauce. We asked for more bread to soak up that sauce. We didn’t have enough room for dessert, but can’t wait to go back tomorrow again. Google says they don’t open for dinner on sundays, but I just called and...
