AZURE TERRAZA — Restaurant in Benalmádena

My wife and I stumbled into Azure our first day in Benalmadena. Well, not exactly stumbled, as Ivan spotted us looking at the menu board out front and gently ushered us to a table. Turns out it was the luckiest thing to happen to us that day. The food is superb and reasonably priced, and the menu has a good variety - the chef is a wizard in the kitchen. Over the next month we sampled quite a few things off the menu and were never disappointed. However, we kept returning to the tapas special of a drink and 4 dishes for 10 euros as it was delicious and just enough food.

However, the real treasure is Ivan - he (almost) single-handedly and efficiently runs the whole front of the house, and cheerfully greets potential customers along the paseo. He's fluent in English and Spanish and humored my tortured efforts at bad Spanish. This has to be one of my favourite places of all times. I don’t know why, well I do. They are so friendly, the atmosphere, is cosy and good lord the food is amazing. Yes simple little place that sells tapas, but the chef makes it with love. I am Caribbean, we love food, and I know when food is made with care! I’ve eaten around the world a lot, but this place has MAGIC! You know when you see a chef smile and the joy they get from knowing you loved their food. It’s like a kid on Christmas Day. After reading the great reviews we tried this unassuming little restaurant and weren't disappointed, the tapas was wonderful, we ordered 4 dishes and a jug of sangria, the fried fish and the mini burger were sublime, so much so we decided to go back and have a full version of our dishes the next day, that's where our disappointment occurred and the 4 star rating instead of a 5 given, we noticed the board outside offering 6 tapas and a jug of sangria for 19 euros, we had been charged 23.5 euros for our smaller order the previous day, its a shame the staff didn't feel the need to point out the offer at the time of ordering, which now left us feeling that we had been ripped off!
