Gorliz kafetegia — Restaurant in Bilbao

A good and straightforward bar/restaurant. Menu choices are typical of the Basque Region and varied. The bar is situated in quite a popular area of central Bilbao. Service was very good. Wine choices good too. We had Pulpo Gallega to share as a starter. 2nd course was Callos and Morros in Vizcaina sauce & Albondigas. Very tasty all round. Our reservation coincided with the 2nd half of Athletic Bilbao v Mallorca which was being shown on the TV. This added to the overall atmosphere as the local folks were cheering along....

Superb for both bar food and a regular dinner. Gorliz is noted for their spicy tortilla, and it was the juiciest and all around best in my Basque trip.

The mussels, txakoli and sangria were good as well, but they are hard to mess up, so probably not the best measure of the chefs' ability. They bake their bread on the spot and maybe I'm too easily impressed on that front, but I downed the second basket in full by myself because it was so good...
