I have no words to describe our experience @ El Guanche in Masca, the location, the food, the atmosphere....spectacular! First of all, if you want to come here to eat its better to check if the restaurant is open, because 2 days a week its closed. More than that, if you don't want to wait for a table, make sure to be there before they open (12:30pm), or make a phine reservation for a table! The location is from another planet, with amazing threes, plants, flowers and a spectacular view. Now let's talk about the food. We came here to try some local dishes and we ordered Tortilla El Guanche that came with an apple and a spicy souce...it was very tasty and yummy. The second dish was Cheese Marlene accompanied with cactus chutney and cinnamon mojo sauce. This dish effectively freezed my brain, the goat cheese with those sauces were an explosion of tastes on my tongue. It was so good, amazing, excelent. Although that i am a gourmand and a meat lover, it was the best dish i ever tried....I realy cant find my words! The third dish was Eggplant vulcano (Eggplant, goat cheese, red peppers, caramelized onions and palm honey - all baked in the owen)...I don't know if it needs any description....it was wow. I was about to forget about our drinks, we had 1L of cactus Mojito.....I declared in front of my wife that it was the best drink i ever had. Overall, visiting Masca and El Guanche was one of our best day in Tenerife. Would definitely come back here our next time in Tenerife. P. S. The food looks 1000 times better than in the menu!

The position of the restaurant is absolutely gorgeous, a little out of the way of main tourist routes, so it is quiet and with great views of the valley, so you can enjoy the view while waiting on the food. The food itself is good, only vegetarian options, but we did not mind, as it was warm and we didn't want to eat a ton of food. We went for the 4 course menu, which in a middle of a touristic place had a very reasonable price. The staff was very polite and friendly and they did not have any problems with us bringing a baby. The place is very kid friendly, with toys and a small swing to keep them entertained. Our 8 month old loved the place & the toys. If you read the menu, don't skip the first part that's related to the history of the place, it's an interesting read. All in all we had a great time and would recommend visiting the restaurant if you are hungry and in the area.

This has quickly become one of my favourite restaurants from the past decade given the fantastic vegetarian options ("95% of the menu is vegetarian"), unique drinks, great location, affordable prices, and excellent service. Note though that they are only open Sunday-Thursday 12:45-16:00 at the time of writing. Logistics: Car park in Marsa has limited spots (after intense mountain roads) but also has a bus stop. You need to be a confident driver if driving yourself there. From car park, a 5 minute walk downhill to the restaurant. You'll likely need to add your name to their waiting list as they only have 9 tables. (We waited about 20 minutes for table of two on Monday 14:15.) Once in, a few tables have good views but all are in shade. They have clean toilets - also with a view - and the menu has pictures and multiple languages. Credit cards are taken.

El Guanche is such a lovely spot to chill and dine. I couldn’t get enough of its 360 panoramic view. Fortunately the food also happened to be great. All the dishes we tried turned out to be quite good. My favorite was the super refreshing sweet potato salad and the deep fried champignon in bread crumbs. The eggplant burger (I just made the name up 😆) layered with cheese, zucchini and bell pepper was also not bad. Though a bit too sweet for my taste the combination was actually going rather well together. Too bad it wasn’t the cactus season so I didn’t get a chance to try cactus juice. Last but not least, the excellent services. Though the restaurant was packed we didn’t have to wait long for our order. The waitress had such a chummy air around her and took really good care of everyone. I’d totally recommend it to anyone ever visits Masca.

I am deeply disappointed by the recent experience. Would give zero if I could. After a strenuous 5-hour hike up the gorge to Masca, our my wife and I arrived in search of refreshments. Arriving at the Alte Schule around 15:50, we were taken aback when the hostess informed us that the restaurant was already closed (closing time was 16:30 on google maps and 16:00 at the gate). This struck us as odd, given that the garden was bustling with guests enjoying their meals, and some tables had yet to place their orders. When my wife politely inquired about the possibility of purchasing drinks, we were met with a firm refusal and were informed that the establishment was closed. Such a lack of hospitality and understanding left a significant negative impression on us. If it were possible, I would rate this experience with zero stars.

A restaurant with a view! El Guanche offers home cooked vegetarian meals which can be eaten on a beautiful shaded terrace covered by climbing plants and overlooking the surrounding mountains and valleys. The food is really nice and the prices very reasonable. The service is with a smile. It's probably better to book in advance on weekends since it is popular. I would suggest you arrive early if you drive because available street parking is limited and the spaces get taken very quickly. The village is on a bus route but I don't know how frequent the service is. You have to walk down a fairly long steep slope to get to the restaurante so beware if you have problems walking, but once you get there I think you'll find it really is worth it. Highly recommended.
