Our visit to El Pilón was a complete disappointment. From the start, we were treated with an attitude that can only be described as rude and dismissive. There was absolutely no sense of hospitality — something one would expect as a minimum in any restaurant.
When we politely asked if we could sit at a table that had just been vacated, we were shut down with a sharp “No” and an unfriendly, almost aggressive hand gesture. No explanation, no alternative offered — just a flat refusal, as if we were an inconvenience.
Things got even worse when we tried to order. We requested lamb and beef steak, only to be told — without much concern — that neither was available. Fair enough, we thought… until guests who arrived after us ordered those exact dishes and received them without a problem. So either we were lied to, or someone made a choice about who deserves what. Both scenarios are unacceptable.
To be fair, the food we eventually ended up with was of good quality. But that does not make up for the cold, almost hostile treatment we received. Add to that the above-average prices, and the result is a deeply unsatisfying experience that left a bitter aftertaste.
If you value being treated with basic respect and courtesy when you go out to eat, I cannot recommend El Pilón. This was not just bad service — it was disrespectful. Two stars, and that’s only because the food...
Read moreVisited El Pilón, largely on the basis of good reviews on Google. THE GOOD: It is an attractive place, old style but well finished inside. Pleasant reception, seated at a nice table by the window, presented with the English/Spanish menu. Requested a glass of red wine whilst considering the menu. THE BAD: the wine was the most unpleasant I've ever experienced in Spain. Sour, vinegary, undrinkable. I then waited, in a nearly-empty restaurant, to be asked what I'd like to eat. Ignored for 20 minutes. By which time, I'd come to the conclusion that - what with the wine quality issue and contemptuously ignoring customers - that the restaurant really couldn't care less about its clientelle. So I got up, went to the bar, asked to pay for the "wine" and prepared to leave. The person who'd received me showed not a scintilla of surprise or concern. Paid, departed, will not re-visit. A tourist trap, reliant on fast turnover...
Read moreas a vegetarian the food was not good at all, no flavour really just salty and not in a good way. my meal came cold at first but the service fixed it within 2 mins i had a new meal. doesn’t mean it tasted better unfortunately. came with my family and the 4 of them had fish or meat meals and they all said the food was good, but for such a well rated restaurant we were expecting better. it’s about the same price as restaurante cortijo paco which we also went to but that was much better. terrace was nice but make sure you book, also paella has to be pre-ordered which we didn’t know. they also tried to charge us for bottled water after we asked for tap and brought a basket of bread over for us we didn’t ask for and they charged us 50cents per person for it. i will say the starters were amazing, has garlic mushrooms...
