Tea Room — Restaurant in Córdoba

I recently visited the Tea Room in Cordoba and had a very disappointing experience. The waiter, who was Moroccan, bald, and wore glasses, was rude, unprofessional, and discriminatory. He claimed they were “too busy” to serve food and only offered sweets and tea, saying it was quicker and helped him meet his targets. Despite having a confirmed reservation for food after a 45-minute wait, he refused to serve us, shouted at my family, and spoke loudly in Spanish for others to hear. When we asked for his name to report the behavior, he refused. His attitude was unwelcoming, dismissive, and clearly biased against us because we were not Spanish. This is unacceptable, and I do not recommend this restaurant to anyone seeking respectful service.

J’ai récemment visité le restaurant Tea Room à Cordoue, et mon expérience a été très décevante. Le serveur, d’origine marocaine, chauve et portant des lunettes, s’est montré impoli, non professionnel et discriminatoire. Il a prétendu qu’ils étaient “trop occupés” pour servir des plats, ne proposant que des desserts et du thé, affirmant que c’était plus rapide et l’aidait à atteindre ses objectifs. Malgré une réservation confirmée pour des plats après 45 minutes d’attente, il a refusé de nous servir, a crié sur ma famille et a parlé très fort en espagnol pour que tout le monde entende. Quand nous avons demandé son nom pour signaler son comportement, il a refusé. Son attitude était hostile, méprisante, et manifestement biaisée parce que nous n’étions pas Espagnols. Ce comportement est inacceptable, et je ne recommande pas cet établissement.

Recientemente visité el restaurante Tea Room en Córdoba y tuve una experiencia muy decepcionante. El camarero, de origen marroquí, calvo y con gafas, fue grosero, poco profesional y discriminatorio. Dijo que estaban “demasiado ocupados” para servir comida y solo ofrecían dulces y té, argumentando que era más rápido y le ayudaba a cumplir sus objetivos. Aunque teníamos una reserva confirmada para comer tras esperar 45 minutos, se negó a atendernos, gritó frente a mi familia y habló muy alto en español para que los demás escucharan. Cuando pedimos su nombre para reportarlo, se negó. Su actitud fue hostil, indiferente y claramente prejuiciosa porque no éramos españoles. Probably the worst service from a waitress I’ve ever experienced. She took our order and then 20 minutes later came and took our order again as she didn’t write it down the first time, and then still got two out of four orders wrong. She was moody and unapologetic all evening.

The meat served was okay but the vegetable ‘tagine’ was just a bowl of plain boiled veg which wasn’t even cooked through. The veg in the meat dish was similarly awful.

The entire floor of the toilet was covered in water and there was no paper towels.

Bit of a tourist trap, nice decor and okay if you just want some tea and have plenty of time to wait for the bad service.

Avoid the food at all costs unless you enjoy paying 18 euros for undercooked plain boiled veg which a well trained Labrador could...

Plus: Very atmospheric, featuring fine North African decor, punctuated by lovely plants and gentle lighting.

Cons: Lousy food. Our "vegetable tajine" was unspiced boiled veggies in a tajine bowl. The only thing good about it was that it's good for your health. Zero resemblance to anything Moroccan/N. African I've ever had before. Our soup was equally bland. The Egyptian "foul bean " dish we ordered never came. No bread or other starch accompanied these dishes. The honeyed sweets were okay. One overworked server. Very pricey.
