We came here on our final night in Cadiz. We'd seen how busy it was the previous night and thought it must be excellent.
How wrong we were.
We sat down and ordered four tapas plates and drinks. Our drinks came and then we waited.
And waited.
And waited.
And waited.
After an hour, our first plate of tapas arrived. The tables around us who ordered at the same time had already finished eating. We finished our first plate then waited.
And waited.
And waited.
The waiter obviously knew how unacceptable this all was as he refused to look at us when serving other tables.
After another half hour our second plate arrived. Between our first tapas and our second arriving, a table beside us arrived, ordered and received all of their food.
We were then going to ask for the bill when after another fifteen minutes, our third plate arrived. At this stage, we cancelled the fourth dish, asked for the bill and left.
The food was great, but their service was utterly appalling. We had big plans to bar hop on our final night in Cadiz and try as many places as we could, but by the time we'd finished dealing with the utter incompetence here, almost everything was closed-which says a lot as most places around here don't close until midnight!
Thanks...
Read moreWe were recommended to come here by a local and I am definitely glad we came. You have to ask for a table, which waited about 15 minutes for (there were just 2 of us). They have a bar you can order a drink at while you wait, which was great. The drinks just get added to your tab as you wait for a table. You can’t go to the bar unless you’re going to sit down for food. The food was traditional and perfectly executed. We had the salmorejo (great balance of tomato and garlic, not too much garlic at all), croquetas (stuffed with chicken and bechamel —maybe my favorite dish), the fried gallo (fried fish —very good but maybe a bit dry), the grilled chipirones (full squid that has great seasoning and a side salad of tomatoes, peppers and onions, that was much appreciated). Seating is all outdoors and the hostess was very accommodating, she offered us a table on the side street right away in case we were very hungry but understood when we turned her down to wait for a better table. There were live street musicians playing whims we ate our delicious lunch. They take credit card here, which is super convenient. I would come...
Read moreA place that is a victim of its own 'success'. The service, although friendly, was non-existent. After rushing our order and serving the food, we did not see our waiter again. He did not ask if we would like more drinks or dessert. The food was terrible. I was shocked that this place was so highly recommended, which reminds me that it is better to ask locals for recommendations rather than reading online guides. The shrimp tortilla had way too much batter making it stodgy. I assume this was to lower the cost. The clams first came cold and when the dish was returned, I suspect they microwaved it instead of cooking a fresh batch. The clams themselves were sandy and rubbery.
When we gave our comments to the manager, he completely missed the point and asked how we would like to be compensated. We had already paid, our comments were given so that they might improve! How can we be compensated on wasting one of only two dinners in Cadiz on this place. It was a total waste of time and a waste...
