The Cathedral itself is 18th century but a lovely light take on a Romanesque design. The crypt design is also interesting. For those looking for a Gothic or true Romanesque building this is not for you. All that being said our family visit was deeply marred by the staff. On a very wet day we entered and we paid the pretty hefty fee that included an audio tour and a VR experience. When we attempted to use the VR experience the staff was just horrible, vindictive and small minded. Of note there were no visitors in the VR area, it was empty. We were informed that we needed to show our ticket, the receipt from the entry fee. My mother of 80 year could not remember if she got a receipt or where its was. So the young woman staffing the VR area said "You got a ticket. You got a ticket." When I pointed out that we could not have gotten the audio device without paying she just dug her heals in "No ticket no entry." When I went back to the entry area where I waited quietly for the staff to complete the transaction for the next visitor he rudely waved at me and said "You wait." The next visitor was shocked by my treatment and asked if I was OK. When I asked the staff at the entry desk for another receipt he just went off. "All day people say that they do not have a ticket, but they do!!" "If you do not have that is your problem." This was completely out of order. There is a very simple solution of telling visitors to keep there ticket handy for access to the VR area. Yelling at guests is never the solution. The management should really make this clear to the staff. All peace and serenity from the...

The Cathedral of Cádiz is one of those places that completely exceeds expectations — it’s even more beautiful in person than in the photos. As soon as you step into the square and look up at its golden dome and majestic facade, you can’t help but be impressed. It has a powerful presence that somehow feels both grand and welcoming.
Inside, it’s absolutely breathtaking. The mix of light and shadow, the tall columns, and the soft echoes of silence create a truly magical atmosphere. You feel the history in every corner, but it’s not just a monument — it feels alive.
The crypt is fascinating and has a mysterious, quiet beauty of its own. And if you're up for a bit of a climb, the tower offers some of the best views in the city — the sea, the rooftops, the whole charm of Cádiz laid out below you.
Whether you're visiting for the architecture, the history, or just a quiet moment to soak it all in, the cathedral delivers something special. It’s one of the highlights of Cádiz — and honestly, even more stunning than...
Read moreThe Cathedral of Cádiz is without doubt an impressive building – grand, historic, and beautiful from the outside as well as inside. However, I find it very disappointing that, as is often the case with Catholic churches, entrance is not free.
At a time when Catholicism struggles with declining numbers of faithful, charging people to step into a house of worship feels like the wrong approach. Instead of encouraging people to come closer, it creates distance and discouragement. During my travels I ended up visiting far more mosques than Catholic churches – not because I wasn’t interested in the latter, but because mosques are always free to enter, while here I constantly felt asked to pay a fee, almost like a “tax” just to get in.
It’s not about the amount itself, but the principle. A place of prayer and reflection should welcome people, not put a price tag on access. Otherwise, the Church should not be surprised if, one day, it’s simply too late to...
