I love this place so much!! The flavors are so good, and the ingredients are so high quality, I would sometimes come here twice a day for lunch, then dinner during my week-long stay in Córdoba. The kitchen knows exactly what they’re doing. The restaurant gets very busy for dinner so don’t expect the service staff to constantly be around, however you eventually get food that’s so good it absolutely makes up for any long wait. I especially recommend the Salmorejo, the Brioche de Rabo de Toro, the Canelón Ibérico, and the cheesecake, torched with sugar crème brûlée-style right at the table. However I have tried at least half of the menu, and 3 dishes off their alternating menu written on the wall inside the dining room, and I have to say, everything was just perfect. There are cheaper restaurants in the area, but you will not get nearly as good of an experience because La Taberna del Rio really focuses on high quality ingredients and the chefs are highly skilled. Definitely don’t miss out and give this place a visit. Then go to the bar to pay, so you don’t have to sit an extra half hour waiting for the bill. Definitely go inside and check out the specials menu written on the blackboard, their paper menu is just the regular menu, though everything is worth a try here. I recommend absolutely everything! Come multiple times. That was over many days of coming again and again because the food was just too good to miss out on! Portions aren’t small, don’t expect to try everything in one visit. But you should definitely go more than...
Read moreWe came here on the recommendation of our hotel but really had a horrible experience. We arrived at around 8:15pm and were encouraged to sit down by what seemed to be a manager or head waiter. I speak OK Spanish but am not familiar with the Andalusian accent and obviously misunderstood him, as it later transpired that we had to vacate the table before 9pm. Of course a misunderstanding is nobody's fault (although I've never been to a restaurant anywhere in the world where 40 minutes was considered enough for a meal.)
However, we then ordered gin & tonics, wine and starters. We asked our waiter if we could wait to order our mains and he said no, but that he would make sure that there would be a gap between courses. At this point it should have been quite obvious that we (myself & my 74 year old mother) did not realise that we had to eat in half an hour. It should have been brought to our attention that we wouldn't have time. The food arrived extremely quickly & was basically thrown down on the table.
At around 8:50, I heard the waiters standing right behind us, joking about who was going to tell us to get up. I asked if we had to leave and was told yes, as they had a reservation.
The staff were all unfriendly and curt to the point of rudeness. At no point did they ask us how the food was. Obviously we were viewed as a quick way to turn over a table and make some money (we spent almost 100 euros and had to leave most of our drinks). I've lived in Barcelona for years, travelled around Spain and this is honestly the worst experience I've had in a restaurant. A really disgusting way to...
