La Montillana in Córdoba is the kind of place you wish you could pack into your suitcase and take home. I started with Iberian ham croquettes so perfectly crisp and creamy they should come with a warning, followed by a flamenquín cordobés – a golden, deep-fried roll of pork loin and Iberian ham with fries – that could convert even the most sceptical. The Iberian pork loin, slow-cooked then roasted, came swimming in a local sherry sauce so rich it felt like the city’s history had been reduced into a glaze, with mashed potatoes that could have been a meal in themselves. The croissant relleno de ventresca (tuna) was a playful surprise, and the bread pudding with white chocolate mango sauce and lemon-cinnamon ice cream was the perfect finale.

To drink, I stuck with their standard Mahon beer – crisp and exactly what you want between bites – and a stunning local Syrah (2021, 12PB) that carried the meal like a well-chosen soundtrack. The place was full when I arrived, so I ate at the bar, which only added to the charm. Every member of staff radiated warmth and pride in what they were serving, and Juan Carlos wax more like an old friend after a minute. That mix of passion and precision that makes a restaurant unforgettable. If you’re in Córdoba and don’t eat here, you’ve missed...

This spot really impressed us from the moment we arrived. The indoor and outdoor seating area are great and and manages to feel both authentic and welcoming, with beautiful details that give it a real sense of place and history.

The team working here deserves a huge shoutout. Even though it was clearly a busy night, they handled everything with so much grace and efficiency. They stayed calm, focused, and kind throughout the entire experience, and it never felt rushed or impersonal. You can tell they really care about what they do.

The food was fantastic—fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The menu offered a great selection, with something for everyone, and each dish we tried was delicious. From the atmosphere to the service to the food, everything came together to create a memorable and enjoyable visit.

Highly recommend stopping by if you’re...

A True Andalusian Gem – Fantastic Atmosphere & Great Value!

If you’re looking for an authentic Andalusian experience, this taverna is an absolute must! From the moment you step inside, you're greeted with a warm, lively atmosphere that feels both traditional and welcoming.

The wine selection is excellent – rich, flavorful, and surprisingly affordable. Every sip was a delight, and the quality for the price was outstanding. But the best part? Just when we thought the evening couldn’t get any better, we were treated to a complimentary local Schnaps, rounding off the night perfectly.

This is the kind of place where you can sit back, soak in the true spirit of Andalusia, and enjoy fantastic drinks in a setting that feels both vibrant and relaxed. Highly...

My family and I really enjoyed the food! We did some research and ordered some special cuisine of Córdoba. “Salmorejo” - This was the first cold soup we tried in Spain and it was delicious. ❤️ “Flamenquín” - We loved this as well. “Fried Aubergine” - The honey and cheese made the fried aubergine not that scary so even a family member who never tried egg plant, tried it! “Iberian ham croquette” - If you like a lot of cheese you’ll like it as it’s very creamy (my parents are not a big fan of creamy texture) Calamaritos Fritos was just ok, perhaps Córdoba wasn’t famous for seafood since it’s far from the sea. But my dad wanted it so we ordered😆

A local guide recommended this place. I had a list of authentic and not touristy restaurants (it’s my second time in Cordoba), but unfortunately most of them are closed end of July. However, I didn’t give up and kept looking for an authentic taberna. This is a hidden gem. No tourists, but just local customers. Lovely service and nice location (in a square outside the city walls). Good prices and high quality of products. I had a light dinner: ensaladilla and two croquetas (I originally ordered one only, but it was so good I had a second one). I will totally come back here ☺️☺️.
