Firstly let me preface this review with a disclaimer and tldr: The place is sexist towards men and serves decent food, however it doesn't offer a great experience or joy like some other restaurants have offered while I've been in Calpe. The full review includes some details that some may find disturbing and viewer discretion is advised in those areas.

Now, that out of the way, let's talk food! I love food, that's why I am on the Google Review team! We look at restaurants based on a few criteria and give them a score out of ten for our blogs and out of five for Google. So let's do this!

The steak was thin... Waaaay too thin! As you can see from the pictures it is the size of the fork prongs! This is simply unacceptable when you don't really offer any details about the steak (ie: saying it's a "thin slice of meat") instead you are told it's a steak served with chips (fries for us Americans) and a salad. The fries were soggy and felt like they were microwaved, and the salad was a sad excuse for a side dish with no dressing whatsoever.

To fix this, you should offer the steak for an even €10 (+vat) with better cooked sides, and maybe even make the steak thicker! That's an idea! Remember: people are paying for food... Not paper! Entrecôte (a fillet mignon) was only €10 more than the steak I got and looked bigger, better, and much tastier.

I know, I sound dull and grumpy, however if you made it this far, you want to know what else is wrong with this store.

Well I will tell you. Calling a store sexist is very difficult in this day and age of feminism, however this business (or at least the person who I asked for toilet paper from) seemed to be very sexist. Here's how the discussion went:

I approached the bartender who I tolda/asked that there was no toilet paper in the men's restroom. She then called to another waitress (who was actually our waitress) and I assume asked about the situation and explained that I only spoke English. The woman replied with, "Men don't deserve toilet paper."

WOAH! SHE SAID WHAT?

When I asked her to repeat herself, she rephrased it to, "Men don't get toilet paper."

Still.. Wow. So if you are a guy, tourist or not, watch out and avoid this restaurant.

So from America with.. Much despise.. I give this...

Avoid Capri Restaurant: A Disappointing Experience

Capri Restaurant was the worst dining experience I had in 2024, and I strongly recommend against trying it. My wife and I visited Spain to celebrate her birthday last December, flying to Calpe in southeast Spain. The area boasts a beautiful beach and a large rock on the hill, making it a lovely spot for a getaway.

For the birthday celebration, we chose Capri Restaurant based on its high ratings on Google Maps. Unfortunately, it was a huge letdown. We hadn’t booked a table for dinner and walked into the restaurant, where the waiter silently led us to a table and then left without a word. When I asked another waiter for a menu, he told us the iPad menus were all gone and we needed to use our phones to scan their QR code to see the menu. To make matters worse, the next guests were given the iPad menus.

We waited for over 45 minutes without any service, despite making eye contact with the waiters. Meanwhile, four groups of customers were greeted warmly with hugs and kisses. When we were about to leave, a waiter finally approached us to ask what we needed. We initially wanted to order a seafood platter, but our mood was ruined, so we settled for bread as a starter, cuttlefish paella, and “Fine du Claire Marenne Oléron” oysters.

The bread, served warm with dipping sauce, was decent. When a young waiter pushed a workbench to our table to prepare the cuttlefish paella, he left the workbench there after he finished serving our plates, which blocked the narrow passage and caused inconvenience to other staff. We saw their staff squeezing through to serve the tables around us over 20 times, before he finally moved the workbench away.

Aside from the bread, the rest of the food was disappointing. The cuttlefish paella was lack of any seafood flavor and was bland. The oysters were tiny, about the size of a dollar, and tasted stale, as if they had been in the refrigerator for a long time.

I strongly advise all travelers to avoid Capri Restaurant. It will only waste your money and time, and ruin your good memories...

I recently dined with my family at Capri, and while I won't delve into the food quality, which is quite decent, our experience was unfortunately overshadowed by several significant issues.

Firstly, the prices are highly overrated. While the food is of good quality, it is not justified by the exorbitant prices, particularly the wine, which I found to be significantly overpriced.

The service, which one would expect to be efficient in a restaurant of this caliber, was nothing short of a disaster. It took 35 minutes for us to place our order and an astonishing additional 1 hour and 10 minutes to be served. This was not an isolated incident, as we witnessed several other tables experiencing similar delays, with one even rejecting their plate due to the long wait.

The layout of the restaurant also leaves much to be desired. The tables are so close together that it feels like the priority is to maximize the number of guests rather than ensuring their comfort.

To make matters worse, our bill contained errors, with over 50 euros mistakenly added for items we hadn’t ordered. Although these mistakes were eventually rectified, it added to the overall frustration of the evening.

On a positive note, the waitstaff were very pleasant, particularly an Italian waiter and another wonderful waiter named Denis (I believe) who graciously apologized and offered a plate of fruit and a digestive. However, while their kindness was appreciated, it did little to make up for the overall poor experience.

Lastly, the behavior of the manager was disappointing. She did not handle the situation professionally, speaking not very nicely to her staff and only justifying the delays to tables she appeared to know personally, which is unacceptable in an establishment of this supposed standing.

It is truly disappointing to see a restaurant that positions itself at such a high standard fall so short of expectations. This experience was far from what one would expect from a venue of this reputation. And we definitely won’t be back...

We went there to eat oysters. Two kinds on the menu, from Normandy for 2,95 each and another kind for 4,95 each. Salad Capri on the menu 11,95. Waiter explained that they change their menu and this salad is now bigger, for 2 persons and costs 14,95. Ordered 6 Normandy oysters, salad, fried mixed fish and grilled squid with no potatoes, veggies instead. Oysters ok, very nice presentation. Salad nothing special or good at all. Plates not cleared when second plates arrived. Fried fish not much and squid came with french fries. Serving waiter insisted that the fries go with the squid, we explained that we expressly asked for veggies - they arrived after we finished. The bill then showed oysters for 4,95 a piece, 12 € too much, what we reclaimed and they corrected immediately. Conclusion: luxury appeal, luxury prices (NO IVA included) - but absolutely no luxury, very poor performance of service and kitchen and a bad try to get more money out of a 2 person lunch - sorry, but that is a place we can easily renounce in the future!
