Blau Mar is a little gem in Calpe.

The vibe from sitting next to the kitchen where the largely young and energetic team are buzzing in and out from a lively front-of-house is contagious. We were walking down the promenade and commented that it’s probably just tourist traps on the beachfront, BUT this was an unexpected treasure of a find. Josef, the manager/owner, took an interest to the Carmela Rodelo wine we ordered and two of our party ordered the paella which we all tasted. Although Valencia paella is famous, this was for sure the best that any of us tasted and the hype and happiness of the team working here along with the patrons, confirms this is a place very worthy of a Thacks Award. Quite possibly the best paella in Spain.

We went here based off the Google Star rating, and the food did not disappoint. We ordered a veggie paella, which was incredibly flavourful. Often with veggie paellas it feels like they've just thrown in a load of frozen veg mix, but this one was well thought out and really delicious with some butter beans, chickpeas, artichoke and then the usual peppers and green beans. Really tasty. The downside - it took an absolute age to arrive. Several other diners ordered after us and ate before us, some having two courses before ours arrived. We think ours just got forgotten at some point. Nos decidimos a comer aquí, y no siempre se puede acertar!! Pedimos una fideuá y nos quedamos con las ganas.....fideos de sopa bañados en aceite!! La dejamos entera......Se lo comentamos al camarero cuando nos preguntó y el cocinero con una actitud bastante altiva, le dijo a mi marido "ven aquí guapo"!!! sé de sobra que es guapísimo, pero ni que decir que no son formas de hablar a un cliente, quiso defender su forma de cocinar!! Lo siento mucho pero eso no es una fideuá, te moleste lo que te moleste, el sabor brillaba por su ausencia!! Nosotros estábamos dispuestos a pagar la cuenta total, pero decidieron no cobrarla lo cual nos pareció correcto por su parte!! No quiero menospreciar el trabajo de nadie, pero personalmente hemos comido fideuas estupendas y esto no se parecía ni de lejos!! Seca, sin sabor a pescado y la concha de los mejillones minúsculos llena de aceite!! Lo siento de verdad muchísimo!! Hay que ser más humilde y no olvidar nunca que vives de la gente que va a tu casa a comer, dejando la comida a un lado lo que más me ha molestado han sido sus formas y maneras!! Me quedo alucinada al leer su respuesta!!! Además de nada profesional FALTA USTED A LA VERDAD!!! Por supuesto que probamos la fideuá, sino pq nos íbamos a quejar?? Que cree que entramos a un restaurante a las 14 de la tarde para no comer?? Es absurdo!!! Y el que dijo "ven aquí guapo" fue usted que se refirió a mi marido para hablar con el, no ponga palabras en la boca de otras personas..... que por cierto el camarero fue muy amable!! El único que nos ofreció comer otra cosa, pero después de lo sucedido como que no me quedaba ni un segundo más alli!! Cómo cambia la actitud cuando sabe que está plataforma la leen otros usuarios!!! Una pena, ojalá hubiese tenido estas formas/maneras y en definitiva educación en aquel momento, mi reseña hubiera sido otra completamente!! Que le vaya muy bien caballero, pero recuerde que ser humilde es...
